From Peace to Cocaine: What Happens When Trump Cuts Aid [1]

Donald Trump and his billionaire lapdog Elon Musk have declared war on America’s role in building a safer, more just world. And the latest victim? Colombia’s fragile peace.
In 2016, after more than 50 years of civil war, Colombia signed a historic peace deal that offered former rebels a chance at reintegration and promised investment in rural communities devastated by violence. It was a beacon of hope. USAID helped make it real, funding programs to replace coca crops with legal alternatives, building schools and clinics, and offering real opportunities in places that had known nothing but bloodshed.
But Trump has gutted it. And the effects are already unfolding.
As The New York Times reports, whole regions are being abandoned by the Colombian government because U.S. funding disappeared. The same farmers who laid down their arms and bet on peace are now being pushed back into poverty, and in some cases, back into the drug trade, because the U.S. reneged on its promises.
Let’s be clear: this is not “America First.” This is America betrayed.
And Musk? He’s too busy posting garbage online and bankrolling right-wing extremists to care that Trump’s cruelty is unraveling peace efforts that took decades to build. They don’t care about results. They care about control, about dominance, about dismantling anything built by people who believed in international cooperation, diplomacy, and dignity.
USAID was never just charity. It was power used for peace. It was American leadership made tangible. It was proof that we could export more than bombs, we could export hope.
But Trump and Musk don’t want hope. They want chaos. Because chaos makes it easier for the strong to dominate the weak, for the rich to hoard power, for democracy to die.
