Top Comments: Getting Involved in The Party Edition [1]

Over the past few months, I have detailed my getting more involved in the local Democratic Party here in Nassau County. In March, I was able to gather 13 signatures for this year’s candidates for local offices in my very red election district and town. According to the party official who was my leader, that was an impressive total. I should note three of those came from my family. Because of this, I am now an official party committee member.
A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to Party’s annual spring dinner which is tonight. I really debated whether or not to attend as the cost, even with the discount for being a committee member, is kind of expensive. The venue for the dinner (Crest Hollow Country Club) is an exquisite place on the northeastern border of Nassau and Suffolk exactly opposite my southwestern Nassau home. I have been there for a couple of weddings, and they do an excellent job with events. The food is also top-notch.
After thinking it over for a couple, I decided to attend just to see what it is like to be a part of this circle once. I figured I could use the dinner to market my family business which, as a combo candy/DMV services store, could help me with my fear of talking to people in social settings. I am reasonably sure people would be very interested in its origins. Also, this will likely give me an opportunity to talk with my congresswoman, who I am sure will be there.
Thursday is the next meeting of the local Democratic Club, and the featured guest will be State and County Party Chair Jay Jacobs. I really need to think of a good question to ask him why we lose so many elections locally and what his plan is to increase turnout. I may use the signature sheets the Republicans are always having their poll workers fill out during elections.
I will report back next week on how everything went.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. From your “attending a dinner he probably shouldn’t” diarist:
TexasTom spells out why the Dems need to figure out a way to rebrand or appeal to all of America fast. The Senate map always works against us due to the lack of being competitive all across the country like we were pre-1990 except for one brief year in 2008.

https://www.dailykos.com/... Nonlinear After Walter Einenkel's diary exhibits how Talking Yam spews arrogance now on the Vatican. On a great subthread from ontheleftcoast, giovannigiorgio, and other solid thinkers who write opinions (not jokers like me), the clearest way I can see the issue comes from Nonlinear. Women ARE the fount of life; they are more important.
