A Cynical but Realistic Look at Opposition Politics Under a Fascist Trump Dictatorship [1]

Hitler and Chamberlain at Munich.

In 1938 British policy against Hitler was one of passive appeasement culminated by the Munich Treaty agreement, ceding parts of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany and Hitler. The following year World War II broke out with the Nazi invasion of Poland.

The Differing Faces of the Democratic Party

In 2025, if you separate the active, more progressive elements in the Democratic Party from its leadership circle, you’re left with a weaker, conspicuously passive policy in the face of an unprecedented fascist dictatorship. One which threatens the very survival of America as we know it and fails to take advantage of the large scaled popular resistance going on.

Sanders and Ocasio speak Truth to Power.

The passing of the disastrous Citizen’s United decision in 2010 increased big money influence in politics exponentially, culminating in two Trump election victories. Such influence penetrated governmental policy to the bone, putting oligarch level wealth at the head of the class.

Playing it Safe?

While this worsening influence is most obvious in the now fascist Republican MAGA Party, it cannot avoid also influencing current Democratic Party Policy.

Since the defeat of presidential candidate Kamala Harris, the leadership has embarked on a policy seemingly aimed at waiting Trump out.

Trump is perceived by many MAGITES as a god-like figure.

Convinced that his incompetence will rise to the top, they are counting on the judiciary to keep him at bay. And thereby avoid risking losing more of its own mega wealthy backing and prestige.

Ignoring Reality

Many reading this article will say to themselves, if not out loud, that the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are not the same. This is, of course, true. But they do share similarities in that both are dependent to a greater or lesser degree on the wealth of upper class Wall Street capitalists. And in that sense, both are influenced by and even dependent on mega money.

Who Leads and Makes Policy?

April 5th in Washington this year.

A more basic reason for shying away from activating and endorsing a well organized and disciplined mass movement is more basic and an unavoidable factor to consider. And that is whose and which class interests are calling the shots in any given political party. And a vision for what should replace Trumpism is also essential. Considering which class perspectives will dominate in an American political party are rarely up front, mentioned or advertised but are a fundamental issue if the fascists are to be defeated.

No Government in Existence Treats Everyone and Every Class Equally

We know whose interests the Republican Party represents. If asked, history indicates the current Democratic leadership, as well as past ones, would claim they represent everyone’s. On any given issue, however, that is not often possible in actual practice. It’s just not how politics works in a class society.

Pieces of paper cannot defeat fascism.

Presently oligarch level wealth and influence has purchased much of America’s major media, “normalizing” the incompetence and ruthlessness of Trump and his fascistic, racist and misogynist ideology.

Fair Elections are not Guaranteed

In plotting strategy against the fascists and Trump, the leadership fails to consider the extreme damage Trump has already caused and continues to cause, and thus incorrectly assumes that fair and free elections can be counted on and won in 2026 and 2028.

It does not factor in the extremely strong Republican motives, their overwhelming media control and newly created abilities to sabotage or block both these elections cycles.

Ultimately, a Democratic leadership strategy that is not backed and in sync in some fashion by a well organized popular movement is as useless as that of Britain’s Neville Chamberlain appeasement strategy in 1938 and cannot succeed. []
