Trump asserts movie making vital to national security, needs tariff protections [1]

Trump is now asserting he will put tariffs on foreign films. His tariff authority is granted by congress for the express purpose of protecting national security. So, he apparently thinks that the movie industry is vital to national security and it is threatened by foreign competition.

Give me a break, please. Applying blanket tariffs to all foreign trading partners is bad enough, but going after foreign films specifically is taking it a mile too far. Hopefully the Supreme Court (please hold you laughter and jeers) will save us all, as Republicans hope it will save them, by intervening in Trump’s tariff binge. The speculation is that if the Republican Supreme Court applies the same novel logic to Trump overstepping that it applied to Biden, we may get some relief.

I understand this is a long stretch of belief. None the less, since the Court just invented their new “major doctrines” analysis to decide cases when all else fails, we can hope they will help us avoid the cliff we all see coming before the economy plummets over.
