Why is it so hard to accept this truth? [1]

We are all created different. Be unique. Be original. Be yourself. … just not too unique, too original or too much yourself.

I’ve always been intrigued by the contradictions of this world that celebrates originality and uniqueness as qualities while they force everyone into conformity.

We used to put anyone “too different’ into institutions or just plain hide them from view. Today we claim to celebrate and welcome differences, as long as they are not too obvious and even as we discover that indeed every human is even more different than other humans than we have ever imagined.

We (today) accept left-handed people, child geniuses, people with all kinds of neurodivergent personalities. Simply put being neurodivergent is just that one’s brain is wired differently. It’s true also that every single brain is wired differently as wiring occurs with thought processes and lived experiences also, but some occur in utero.

We also accept that people are born with different combinations of chromosomes. Indeed, it’s more than just xx & xy. We further accept that people are born with different physical attributes, conjoined twins, extra fingers, toes, organs placed in different places, missing organs, extra limbs etc…

With all this evidence of diversity and complexity of the nature of human beings, why is is so hard to accept the concept of a person being transgender? Of course we know it’s because it’s related in their minds to sex, that’s why most arguments are about sexual assaults, bathrooms and the likes. If our bodies can be so varied that we can differentiate every single one of the 8 billion people on this planet, why can we accept that our minds are also different and accept those differences?

Putting aside the fact that being a trans person has nothing to do with sexuality, why are we as a race so fascinated with that small place of the human body where sexual organs are displayed and their functions? One might quickly jump to “religion” and “the bible” but let us not forget that these (not faith or belief in god/gods) were invented by men.

Ahh, there’s the word and the crux of the matter… men. Males. Patriarchy. Dominance. Possession. Property. The same men who revile gay men, spend hours fantasizing about lesbian sex, the same men who revile trans women, don’t give a second thought to trans men. And it’s all for the same reason. Fear. Fear of being “mistaken” for “one of those” and have their “masculinity” challenged.

I may not know why a trans person is as they are, but I can accept that they are who they say they are, just like they accept me when I say I’m a woman.

It’s really quite simple.
