Sovereignty won the 151st Kentucky Derby. That was the headline on the Yahoo News email that just popped up. Yay! Apparently, the favorite came in second.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care! IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

Why is it so difficult to map the ocean floor?
Miso made in space tastes different.
According to the math, egalitarianism works.
I’ve been enjoying The Fucking News. They send emails out for both the print and the podcast, but I prefer the print. Here’s a good one from late March about the Smithsonian.
Easy Chicken Pot Pie
Salt and Vinegar Roasted Potatoes
How to tell when your refrigerated eggs have expired. For the record, mine have.
Deaths and injuries from cold have fallen dramatically over the past 20 to 30 years, but they still happen by the thousands around the world.
Dubai cookies — sounds good, but the most important ingredients are probably expensive.

I’m wearing my Hairy Otter sweatshirt. Hairy Otter and the Scallop Surprise. I bought it on my birthday 20 years ago. It’s purple. I don’t care for purple, though as far as I can tell, it’s a color that flatters me — personal reasons for the dislike. But sometimes the joke is too good (or bad, depending on your point of view) to pass up, and they had no other color in my size.
I’ve been reading a lot — including what’s in my email to choose what links to post. The new Unconventional Heroes book that I mentioned last week turned out to be somewhere around 1100 pages long.
The new Celia Lake book (Grown Wise) is much shorter — but the main character does an excellent impression of a whirlwind with principles. And her uncle, who has been a secondary character through a fair number of the earlier books, finally gets to lose his temper onstage. I had been wondering why so many of the other characters supposedly walked on eggshells when in his vicinity — no longer have to wonder.
My niece’s daughter is graduating high school in a couple of weeks. We will most likely go to the party her parents are throwing.

Love you guys!
