When Surrounded by Alligators, Remember that You Came to Drain the Swamp [1]

Thank you, Bill Addis, for yesterday’s post about Mango Mussolini’s unconstitutional “Establishment of the Religious Freedom Commission” EO. Those of us who are veterans in the fight to defend democracy from theofascism know that these illegal and unconstitutional EOs are performative shock-and-awe spectacles. They are intended to cause us to hyperventilate and clutch our pearls yet again.
I mean no offense to you. I’m just saying that the best blood pressure medicine against our fascism freakouts is organized, nonviolent, and persistent resistance. That action is spreading across the country as we enter a new spring of democratic pushback.
Mango Mussolini issues these printed brain farts because he and his political cult can’t get their agenda passed by Congress. In addition, fed-up federal judges (including the SCOTUS’s growing anti-tRump majority); a phalanx of blue-state governors and AGs; and a growing list of universities, law firms, and pro-democracy nonprofits are lighting up his fat ass in court like a Russian tank caught on the wrong side of the Ukrainian border. The orange Felon-in-Chief’s cognitive meltdown is visibly accelerating in real time as a result.
Our goal is to capitalize on tRump’s submarining approval ratings and tRump voters’ growing buyer’s remorse over tariff-driven inflation and job/business losses to help bring an end to this nightmare.
Yes, it’s OK to feel anxious about potential theofascist retribution. However, we must not allow that anxiety (fear) to immobilize us. Yes, America finds itself in the middle of a political and economic Dismal Swamp because of too many US voter’s brain-dead choices last November. Regardless, the only way for us to get out of the swamp alive is to keep on pushing (to quote the late Curtis Mayfield—and to paraphrase Winston Churchill).
