Bug Brain Simple: Trump is the oligarchs’ useful idiot [1]

The Republican Party has always been a strange amalgamation. It has traditionally been the party of business, thus promoting low taxation (especially on businesses and the wealthy) and minimal regulation. But these policies do not attract a large enough pool of voters to win elections. So, the Chamber of Commerce crowd held their noses and cozied up to racists and evangelicals. And no one has been more successful at courting this crowd than Trump. So, wannabe oligarchs put up the money, and Trump successfully courted the MAGA crowd. But Trump was just in it for the thrill of the cheering crowds. He has no political philosophy of his own. (His current obsession with tariffs seems to be an exception.) So, the oligarchs are free to write up their anti-regulation, low taxation, anti-worker wish lists on a nice piece of paper, put it in an official looking folder, and hand Trump a sharpie.
