Who Cares That He Thought the Pic Was Real! [1]

My problem with the ABC Trump interview was not that he thought something photo-shopped was real—we are used to his absurdity—my problem was how Terry Moran responded.
The point we are screaming about is not whether Kilmar Ábrego García was a member of MS13, it’s the absence of due process. The follow up questions Moran should have asked were, “Let me give you that point—that even if he is MS13, does not the constitution, the 14th Amendment, provide everyone due process? Where was the due process? How are you upholding the constitution? Is the case to deport him not one that could not stand up in court?”
From my perspective, Kilmar could have literal MS13 on his fingers, he could have been caught with a stash of guns and a kilo of coke—that does not revoke his right to due process. How is what this administration is doing in line with the constitution? Instead, Moran wanted to debate a point about photoshop and then wanted to pivot to Ukraine. Again, who cares if he is MS13, let a court/arbitration process decide…but that is not what happened here. I live in Illinois, even the Highland Park shooter had a day in court—he was not immediately committed to a life sentence. Yet, instead of pressing on absence of the 14th amendment, we got a viral clip about photo-shop. Late night shows have another instance to laugh at Trump’s stupidity, the right gets to argue that he is MS13, and the core issue is not pressed.
Any sports fans here? Ever recall the website FireJoeMorgan.com? It was a site that skewered lazy sports commentary. Off the top of my head, I recall the site skewering the intro to the first World Baseball Classic final. Joe Morgan talked about how the Japanese team was more contact hitters, while the Cuban team was more home run hitters…even though they had both the same amount of home runs up to that point of the tournament. Anyway, I wish we had that for what has passed for American journalism. The questions that should have been asked, the lazy commentary that is put out for clicks.
We need to continue to press journalism to be better. Trump is who he is, he will never change and feels no shame, with enough shame, perhaps American journalism can change for the better.
