No Sales Tax on Trump (Tariff) Tax [1]

I moved to New Hampshire (No Sales Tax) from Alaska (No Sales Tax). Between those two states I spent 40 years). Now for reasons that made sense at the time I have spent most of the last decade in California ( High Sales Tax) . my local grocers collect the bottle/can deposit (CRV) and then One of my pet peeves is that they also collect sales tax on that amount).

After the kerfuffle between Amazon and trump yesterday — where the Drump basically forced Amazon to back down on including a line or tariffs on their invoices I struck me that there is a way for Blue States to fight back. Simply require retailers to indicate the amount of the tariff on invoices and exempt that amount from State Sales Tax.



It is a win-win for consumers. They get to see the real cost of the tariffs and they are not doubly insulted by having to pay state and local sales tax on top of the trump tariff.
