May Day is Lei Day [1]

I made my sign (above) in about 15 minutes. Probably should have thought about it more. At least two people didn’t understand what it meant.
This protest in West Hawai`i was held in the usual place people hold protests, support political candidates, and sell stuff from the trunks of their cars. It’s along the Belt Highway. I live nearby so I drive (and sometimes walk) past a lot. I have never seen as many people as were there today. Even though it was raining, people still turned out.
The organizers had signs that people could borrow if they didn’t bring one. I think this was one of them.
I like this one. The Merrie Monarch is a big hula festival held every year.
Some people decorated their cars. Bernie made an appearance, though he was not dressed for the weather.
The pink sign says, “Stop Truth Decay.”
This was toward the end, when many had already left. This woman stayed, waving her sign.
A reference to Hawaii 5-0.
The sign on the right pretty much sums up how I feel. How did they go so wrong.
One guy gave us the finger. Two gave us thumbs-down. One yelled his support of Trump. But the vast majority of the passing motorists were supportive, honking their horns, and giving us thumbs up and “shaka” signs. One yelled, “Fuck Trump!” as they drove by. One woman kept driving back and forth, holding a sign saying “Mahalo” out of her window.
The next protest is June 14. I plan to be there.
