AG Bondi says Trump saved "over 119 million lives" in 100 days (that is more than 1 in 3 Americans) [1]

“She had just about enough intelligence to open her mouth when she wanted to eat, but certainly no more.” ― P.G. Wodehouse

Speaking vs. writing

Sometimes, we utter something incredibly dumb because speaking is an instant act. A thought pops up and tumbles ill-considered and poorly edited from our lips. But when we write, our thoughts are literally spelled out. We can contemplate what we are communicating. There is a built-in delay — a gap between thought and publication — that allows an intelligent person to study what they are presenting and double-check its validity.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi did not use this gap.

An American tragedy ‘averted’

On Tuesday, this member of Trump’s brain trust tweeted a presumed success of the Trump administration’s first 100 days that was jaw-dropping in its hagiographic and fantastical scope.

Today is Fentanyl Awareness day. In President Trump’s first 100 days we’ve seized over 22 million fentanyl laced pills, saving over 119 Million lives. We are fighting relentlessly for the families of loved ones lost, for those whose lives are at risk, and for the soul of our nation. We will not rest until this poison is off our streets and those peddling it are behind bars. Today I visited a @DEAHQ forensic lab to learn more about how the cartels are quickly making this poison that kills Americans.

Here is an image of the original.

Political speech

I understand politics. You spin for the win. Truth is a victim. And every politician bathes their actions in a rosy glow. But what Bondi has done here is beyond the wildest lie ever told by a guilty toddler or snake oil salesman.

Had she said the administration saved ‘1,000s of lives’, most observers would consider that within the realm of expected hyperbole. Had she said ‘1,000,000s of lives’, the conservative media sewer would have dismissed it as merely a synonym for ‘a lot’.

But Florida’s fair-haired ass-licker cranked the dial to 11 million with absurdity enhanced by specificity. Her total of “over 119 Million [I don’t know why it’s capitalized] lives” represents 35% of the 340 million Americans alive today. This tsunami of death would be a stunning increase from the expected 3 million who will die in all of 2025.

If the reader takes Bondi at her word, should Harris have won the election, bodies would be rotting in the streets. Morgues would have waiting lists. And 2/3rds of us would be mourning the loss of 1/3rd of us.

According to Bondi’s numbers, the national death rate from unchecked fentanyl would be 53 times that of the Spanish flu (which killed c.675,000 out of 103 million Americans. And 100 times that of COVID (which killed c.1.15 million out of 335 million).

So far, common sense and death rates say Bondi is a nut job. But there’s more.

Are there enough drug users?

According to AddictionHelp.com :

“As of 2023, approximately 59.3 million individuals aged 12 and older reported using illegal drugs or misusing prescription drugs within the past year, representing 21.4% of this population.”

This statistic includes marijuana users — the majority of drug users — and, as stated, prescription drug misusers. Neither group is much affected by fentanyl, despite rumors of fentanyl-laced pot . (So far, I have dodged that bullet). But even if every American using an illegal drug, of any kind, from any source, no matter how rarely, were to have died from a fentanyl overdose, Bondi would still be off by a factor of two.

How many people use illegal lab-made opioids is hard to pin down as most counts include users of legally-made (i.e., no imported fentanyl) but illegally consumed (aka prescription abuse) opioids. But the worst-case scenario is 5 million. If every one of them had died of fentanyl OD, Bondi would still be off by over 114 million.

Even Trump’s brown shirts, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) pours cold water on Bondi’s bullshit — and they aren’t about to downplay the danger. According to their website,

“In 2021, around 107,622 people died from drug overdoses in the United States. Data suggests that 68% of those drug overdose deaths involved synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl.”

It is hard to understand how we can get from 107,622 to over 119 million. Especially as under Biden, the rate of opioid fatalities was declining significantly .

Bondi’s logic

The reader might wonder how Bondi came by her number. The answer is simple. She took the total amount of fentanyl seized by the authorities so far this year and divided it by fentanyl’s fatal dose — and voilà!

It makes sense to her.

Case study: alcohol

Just for the hell of it, let’s do the same calculation for alcohol. The lethal dose of a drug is the amount that will kill 50% of the people who consume it; for alcohol, that equates to a BAC of 0.4%. The average American (considering both men and women) weighs 180 lbs and must consume 15.5 “standard drinks” in one sitting to reach that mark.

Americans, as a whole, consume 35 billion standard drinks a year. 35 billion divided by 15.5 equals 2.3 billion. This calculation means, according to Bondi’s logic, 2.3 billion Americans die each year from alcohol poisoning.

It’s just nuts

If, at this point, the reader thinks I sound like a crazy guy and that my arithmetic has nothing to do with reality, they would be right. Welcome to the bizarre computation of Bondi’s brain.
