CNBC is reporting here that

The White House slammed Amazon for reportedly planning to display the cost of President Donald Trump’s tariffs next to the total price of products on its site.

The plan is for Aamzon to display the product price for an article for sale on Amazon and then to separately display the additional cost being added due to the Trump tariffs. The White House press office is asking why this wasn’t done during the Biden Administration when inflation raised prices.

Um, maybe because inflation is when the seller of the product raises the price of their product to recover increased costs of production or distribution or raise profit while tariffs are not seller related. Maybe because the sellers in an inflationary period don’t want to show the increase (especially if it just scalping) while they really want to show consumers that it’s “that guy”, not me, causing the prices to go up.

Amazon didn’t do this out the desire to become the most transparent platform in the world, nope. I bet this was something their sellers — especially China — demanded of them. Somehow, I can see Xi Jinping making a backdoor demand of Amazon to institute this policy or see China doing something to make life difficult for Amazon. That would be the exact type of tangetial attack that China would deploy. And that the Trump team would not even have gamed out responding to.

So, it is likely that Amazon is between a rock and a hard spot because Chinese seller are Amazon’s bread and butter. The sure don’t want China to send all those entities to Chinese competitors of Amazon. But Trump won’t relent.

Corporate America is about to find out the old adage:
