Do trump's bad poll numbers matter? [1]

Do recent polls that show trump’s approval rating at 39% overall, and lower on many key policy areas, matter? What difference will they make in how trump plans to destroy our government, our institutions, our economy and our education and healthcare system?
The answer, by at least a few writers, is YES.
One key argument being made is that it will make it easier for people and institutions to openly oppose and resist trump. Knowing that the electorate disagrees with these policies can help steel the spines of many who might waver otherwise.
x This is why bad polls matter right now: If Trump is toxic, then opposition to him becomes more appealing. (It should have been anyway on moral grounds - but hey, whatever it takes for people to do the right thing.) — Amanda Litman (@amandalitman.bsky.social) 2025-04-27T11:19:04.685Z
William Kristol, Andrew Egger and Will Selber at The Bulwark make similar arguments about trump's poll numbers.
What the poll numbers can do is help strengthen the nerve of individuals and the will of institutions to resist Trump and Trumpism. Looking at these polls, Democrats will presumably be less hesitant in their opposition to the administration. Nongovernmental institutions—universities, law firms, businesses—may be less inclined to accede to, and more willing to stand up to, Trumpist intimidation (and, indeed, we may be seeing instances of this). Judges may be less worried about upholding the rule of law against the Trump administration. But the biggest question over the next one hundred days is the behavior of Republican members of Congress. Their capitulation to Trump has enabled him to get as far as he has. Will they now begin to speak up against some of Trump’s deeds? More importantly still, will they begin to act against some of what Trump has done or proposes to do? We’ll see. But we shouldn’t underestimate what’s happened. Think how grim our political landscape would look if Trump now had a 50 percent or 55 percent approval rating. The drop in public support is not sufficient to ensure a successful political counteroffensive, but it’s a necessary precondition for it
We can hope that these poll numbers bode well for Democrats in 2026. Let’s make it happen!

True to form, trump is now crying "fraud" over his bad poll numbers and screaming "ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE".
x Trump calling his bad polls “election fraud” shows how absurd all his claims of election fraud always were (Notice he leaves out the bad Fox polls) — The Tennessee Holler (@thetnholler.bsky.social) 2025-04-28T12:55:26.427Z

Now, it must be said that Republicans, by and large, still support Trump. His numbers aren't in the 90s but they're still pretty high, usually in the 60s to 70s and Republican officials living in their cloistered little cult compounds for the most part consider that to be all they need to justify staying the course. Trump believes he is the president of Trumplandia, not America, so he's fine with that too. He's so lost in his own reality in which anything that doesn't comport with his increasingly delusional hype is dismissed as fake that I don't think he's even aware of how fully he's been rejected by the vast majority of Americans.
What do you think?
Whether you agree or not, what else should we activists do to further our cause? How can we provide support to institutions to help them resist trumpism? How can we spread this info and other truths, to help bring trump’s approval ratings further down and bring an end to this national nightmare? What new strategies should we adopt?
Please note that lamenting about the lack of spine in republican leaders and mocking Democratic leaders is not a fruitful strategy. Asking for leadership changes is valid. Asking for leadership to be more pro-active and agressive is valid. Please be constructive and creative in your suggestions.
