Sunday Morning Open Thread with Music by Otis Redding [1]

Good morning, crew. How about a morning of lazy soul by Otis Redding? Anyone can write a song about their wife leaving them with their pickup truck and their hound dog but it takes a true master to write a hit song about doing absolutely nothing. That’s Otis.

But first,

My area has severe weather in the forecast for tomorrow. You’d think I’d be prepping for a potential strong tornado, right? You’d be wrong. I’ve been too busy fussing with my house plants. The other day I gave them all a good soaking in the bathtub with dirty aquarium water. I hope that revives them after a Winter’s worth of neglect. I still have to prune my umbrella tree and arrowhead plants as well as pull some dead leaves off my corn plant. (Note: I’m using all the common names here rather than calling them scheffleras, syngoniums and dracaenas.)

What got me motivated to do this house plant maintenance? A couple weeks ago I watched a vid on why peace lily house plants quit blooming shortly after you bring them home. I have a huge one that only had two tiny blooms last Summer. It turns out that nurseries fertilize them with special hormones that trigger them to put out masses of snow white spathes. So I ordered a bottle of this special fertilizer from Amazon. I’ll be damned if it doesn’t work.

Now, as a reward, I ordered myself a rubber tree. The one I bought has leaves variegated with splotches of pink on dark green. Mind you, I’m not going to get one in tree form. That would be too big and costly. I’d just get a baby one in a six inch pot. Rubber trees like a lot of fertilizer but they reward you with rapid growth. It should get plenty big with time. I can figure out where to put it then. That’s right. I’m not sure I have room for another tree in my little cottage.

Our prolific contributor P Carey has become an esteemed MOT emeritus, so there are slots available for bloggers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If interested contact officebss or Ozarkblue via KOSmail. Blank-slate diaries will fill in those unused slots in the meantime.

Now on with the music.

So what’s on your mind this morning?
