Let's revisit those egg prices shall we? [1]

Okay then. Heard about a week ago from Trump that egg prices had come down 92%. And then, yesterday morning before he jetted off to the Pope’s funeral in Rome he said 87%. So then, let's go with his lower percentage. This means the eggs I bought yesterday at my local Harris Teeter, 30 eggs for $11.19, which was the price today and last week, should according to him, cost $1.45. Right. But maybe he doesn't understand math? So, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and that maybe he wasn’t paying attention in math class?
So then, perhaps he means eggs are now actually 13% lower this week--the diff between 100% and 87%? Maybe? But still, this would mean the eggs I bought should be down to about $9.74. So, nope again.
and BTW: A two-pound block of cheddar, store brand was $7.99 last week. Today it was $8.49. Cereal, which fortunately I don’t buy as I’m not a big fan of cold cereal, was up in price by at least one buck a box. From a few weeks ago. Butter? Forget it. I’m okay with plant butter, but even this is rising in price. Fresh produce? No apples for under $2 a pound. Not even the teensy ones in bags that look like you’d only buy them if you were desperate. Kale in the bag? Was 2/$5 a few weeks ago. Now it’s 2/$7. I have always bought Ezekiel Bread. But now, up from approximately $5.99 a loaf to $6.59 over the fall, to now, a breathtaking $8.99 a loaf and way out of my financial league.
Oh, and some of the shelves at my local Harris Teeter were empty yesterday. On Friday, one of the biggest grocery shopping days in my area. But you know what was available a’plenty? Um, pizza. Of all sizes, kinds and labels. Because, according to one of the restaurant association websites (can’t remember now which one I saw and read), when folks cannot afford to go out to eat, or order in from their local carryouts, they buy frozen pizza.
While I’m debunking his nonsense, um, gasoline locally where I live in Maryland? Still above $3 for the Regular 87 gas. So, not sure where the $1.99 a gallon gasoline he also mentioned is to be found but if you find it, how about sending some our way on the East Coast?
And anyone else here noticing some local stores empty and advertising the space for rent? More of them in the last month locally than I’ve seen previously in a much longer time span, like a year or two. Plus, probably can’t blame this on Amazon---their sales have fallen too—thanks in no small part to the millions of us who are working hard not to buy anything from them.
As one talking head said yesterday, what we’re seeing already, only a few weeks into the tariff war, is just the tip of the iceberg. What is coming will likely be far worse than that which all of us lived through during the pandemic. And with one person to blame for it. Just one person. Sure as heck wouldn’t want to be him in another few months—if he is unhappy right now with how his grandiose ventures and schemes are turning out, his resultant meltdowns will look like nuttin’ compared to his reactions this summer. If he doesn’t melt down in a puddle like the wicked witch of the East. Cross your fingers and wish.
