DOGE terminates NSF grants, director resigns [1]

I have not seen this reported yet here, so please let me know if it has and I missed it. If so, I will remove this diary or link to it.
In the last two weeks, DOGE has illegally terminated just about 1000 NSF grants (about 600 yesterday, and 400 the Friday before). This comes on the heels of the NSF director resigning his post on Thursday and "NSF staff members were offered incentives to retire early due to “future restructuring, staffing reductions, and constrained budget environments”. According to DOGE, grants have been terminated because the research no longer aligns with agency goals:

Grants were cut that focused on diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, disinformation/misinformation, and climate science.Many of the projects terminated were on Ted Cruz’ hit list — a list of funded grants he made public (, described as “woke” and in need to public scrutiny. My project is on this list. Democratic staff members have issued a report analyzing the Cruz report, and highlighting numerous errors, though it seems to me that this response to the report has not gotten much public light.
