Time Magazine interview with Donald Trump just published:

TIME: Will you call President Xi if he doesn't call you?

Trump: No.

TIME: You won't?

Trump: Nope.

TIME: Has he called you yet?

Trump: Yep.

TIME: When did he call you?

Trump: He called. And I don't think that's a sign of weakness on his behalf.

TIME: But you would think it's a sign of weakness if you called him?

Trump: I don't --- I just look-—

TIME: Well, what did he say?

Trump never answered the question and weaved into something totally different to deflect.

The New York Times reported that Xi has not called and there are no negotiations going on. Trump lied and got caught in it.

On the White House lawn before getting in the Marine One helicopter, on the way to Italy for the Pope's funeral, Trump was hit with the question again.

Reporter: You said you spoke to President XI. Have you spoken to him since?

Trump: I don't want to comment on that. I've spoken to him many times.

Trump talked about the Pope and a second reporter hit him up about Xi.

Reporter: In Time Magazine you said you had talked to President Xi. When did that happen? And what did you discuss?

Trump: I'll let you know at the appropriate time. Let's see if we can make a deal.

Let's Make A Deal was a game show that ran on TV for decades. It's not a game in dealing with China.

Trump got caught in talking to the reporters about his lie in TIME Magazine, twice.

There were so many other lies in the interview I couldn't keep track of how many.

The New York Times reported:

"China and the U.S. have not held consultations or negotiations on the issue of tariffs. The United States should not confuse the public," said Guo Jiakun, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokdsperson.

"Any claims about progress in China US economic trade negotiations are baseless rumors without factual evidence," said He Yadong, spokesperson for Chinese commerce ministry.

Trump hasn't talked to Xi. There are no negotiations with China on any level.

Trump is just bluffing about being serious about fixing things with our biggest trading partner. Store shelves will start being empty maybe as soon as next week, and Donald thinks going to the Pope's funeral is a business trip, as he said he had meetings lined up.

He also said before leaving that he was going to be back tomorrow night. His calendar says he'll be back at Bedminster at 5:40 pm on Saturday. I know he's got Air Force One at his disposal, but I don't see how he can get there, do the funeral and get back that fast. It's a 10 hour trip both ways. He's not going to be in good shape.

In the meantime, It would be better if Trump did call Xi. We will all start noticing the effects as prices go up and shelves empty. Then, whatever support Trump has on tariffs will disappear. And the Republicans will get the blame. Protesters will camp out at their Washington homes instead of Tesla showrooms. Republicans have to learn there is a price to supporting Trump.
