Using his words, to kill his dream
If there’s ever a phrase, they like to use it’s “judge not by the color of our skin, but the contents of our character”. It is not only because it’s the only phrase they know, having never read any of MLKjr’s writings, but it’s the one they could use to twist the knife as they killed his dream. It is purposeful and deliberate.
The self-called “colorblind” are only blind to other colors because the only color they can see and focus on is Black. Everywhere they look there’s a Black person or persons shining and rising and thriving and that seems to make them physically ill.
The only people the colorblinds are fooling with their “meritocracy” talks are other colorblinds. The rest of us know, that the only reason, those laws and bills were instituted and need was because they did not (and still do not) want qualified Black folks to hold positions of authority. Heck, they don’t want Black folks to have access to qualifications.
Today, our dream is bleeding from hundreds of punctures as they seek to destroy it. Once more, it will be in vain, this is not the first time our dream has been attacked, this is not the first time we’ve felt the slings and arrows of the colorblinds in our backs, this is not the first time we will survive.
Every hole they punch in the dream will be filled with a voice, our dream is whole in every single one of our hearts, it cannot die. We shall continue to rise, continue to shine, continue to thrive and continue to survive, that we have done since time immemorial.
We will do what we’ve always done, rally to one another, support each other, hold up one another and keep moving forward against the odds. We’ve always known our fight was uneven, that has never stopped us before and it will not stop us now.
Let them multiply their bills and their laws, uncovering more and more of their lack of depth, the absence of any semblance of character, as we stick to each other and grow our own futures. Rally to Black own businesses and voices, surround our communities with our strength and ignore all provocations.
We know what’s going on, we are not fooled. We have always judged them by their character and always we have found them lacking.
