Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour cleverly hidden at the intersection of religion, art, science, food, and politics. This is an open thread where we can share our thoughts and comments about the day. The Pacific Northwest Truck Museum in Brooks, Oregon, is dedicated to the preservation of trucking history. Founded in 1989, the Museum preserves and displays all aspects of trucking history, including trucks and trucking artifacts. Over 75 trucks are on display. Shown below are some of the Kenworth trucks which are on display.
In 1912, George T. and Louis Gerlinger, Jr. founded Gerlinger Motor Car Works, a car and truck dealership in Portland, Oregon. In 1914, the Gerlingers decided to build a truck with an inline six-cylinder engine. The truck proved ideal for logging and in 1916 they moved the company to Tacoma, Washington. Their Gersix truck became popular. In 1917, Edgard Worthington and Captain Frederick Kent bought the business and renamed the Gersix Motor Co.
When Captain Kent retired in 1919, his son Harry Kent became a new partner. In 1923, Kent and Worthington incorporated the business as the Kenworth Motor Truck Company.
