I really can't believe you all [1]

You’re all so wrapped up in your sanctimonious sense of entitlement that you can’t just let other people have a different opinion without the need to shout them down. I get you’ve been wounded by others due to your beliefs and theirs clashing. I get that you feel silenced at times. But your solution is to return the favor and silence others?

You hear someone insulting your beliefs as they lash out in pain and feel the need to double down on their pain instead of listening. You have ALL been wounded in some way by someone. The solution is not to rub misfortune in the face of the other side when they are down. Not when the “other side” is really our side.

There is a way to express displeasure with and critique beliefs other than your own which you feel are problematic in some way. But when we are all in the great big family of preserving democracy just because you technically can lash out doesn’t mean you should lash out. Nothing I’ve seen the past couple days has improved either sides position with the other side. It’s just left a bunch of people pissed off and wanting to leave.

Frankly, you have me wondering whether writing on this site is worth it. If you all can’t put down your grievances enough to refrain from attacking discourse and focus on constructive discourse then it makes me feel like why bother here. I have seen many people express fact free opinion thinking they are delivering crushing logic while accomplishing nothing but pissing off the other side. Frankly, if I were a Republican/Russian operative all I would have to do to crush this site is write one or two articles a week supporting or attacking religion.

Both sides feel wounded by others. So DON’T contribute to more wounding. If someone pisses you off, ignore it. If they are spouting misinformation, flag them for a rules of the road violation but don’t engage. It’s not worth it. Clearly too many people on this site are unable to converse on particular subjects without venting their spleen. They are impervious to logic so you can only starve them of attention.
