OK look, I know it’s a bad thing that Trump is having the DOJ investigate ActBlue. I know it’s happening for the worst possible reason at the worst possible time
On the other hand however…
A Democratic Senate primary candidate announces their campaign in Michigan (I live in North Carolina). Over the next 24 hours I get three text messages in rapid succession, asking me to donate. I’m not any Elon Musk level of rich here, i’m just a normie with a normie salary. Much as I hope you win < Insert Michigan Candidate Here > I AM NOT GIVING YOU MONEY.
And so I opt out of the first text, but it doesn’t MATTER. They send multiple texts, from multiple numbers. They skirt the law, they harass me, they make my phone useless.
I have a GMail filter. It’s set to filter out any emails that have the phrase “paid for and authorized by” which is common to candidate fundraising emails. It blocks maybe 67% of the candidate fundraising spam I get from out of state. The other 33% is in my inbox. They want to make my email useless too.
I don’t want to regret donating to candidates when I am able to do so, but whatever Democrats are doing, whatever platform they’re using, it’s the devil. It’s disrespectful. It skirts the opt-out laws, it skirts the legal language that would allow me to reliably filter it out. I have taken to replying to candidates with messages shaming them for their skeevy text and email behavior before I type STOP.

Democrats: we are never going to love you back if you don’t cut this shit out.
