This is an experimental post to test interest in a resistance symbol. I’m open to ideas and criticism. I have not made application to the IRSas a non-profit yet. If my suggestion for a sustainable team buildebothers you simply skip and accept my sincere apologies.
When I realized finally that I had to transition into an active advocate so I could sleep at night; I prioritized my greatest reservations looking for commonality between my previously passive persona (the place I am most comfortable) and the new democratic champion I have been slowly pressured to become. To my great surprise I worked out that I feel nearly alone in the deeply red state I live in. I am isolated. It was a great disappointment no one was organizing rallies or protests near me (100 miles was the closest). That kinda did it. I know a lot of people around here and not nearly all of them can be stereotypically classified.
I fully admit I’ve marveled at how creatively the faux patriots have amplified their faux messages. Conservatives appear to center their social lives around publicly masturbating the giants of their movements and initiatives...reminds me of a never-ending Amway meeting I was once tricked into (mainly blowing never-ending smoke). They are also pretty good with symbology...gawdy...but dedicated to their embarrassing talking points...it’s enough to make even the most hardened salesman blush. Weird, as they say.
So...there’s my starting point. We need to identify. We need to let some of these guys know they should crawl back under their rock. In my search for a simple rallying point, I remember reading someone suggesting Omega(W) as a symbol of/for resistance. A little research later and here are the results that convinced me.
The last letter in the greek alphabet Omega - (W)- remains the historic bookend to the first letter/symbol Alpha - (A) – most famous for the biblical word of God, “I am the Alpha and the Omega” (the beginning and the end). It is not lost on me that many conservative (read fascist) followers like to consider themselves Alpha males. Omega (W) is the end...satisfying symmetry. Omega is also the electrical symbol for Resistance used in STEM calculations.
Working up the art was revelatory. It occurs there are endless thematic variations for the symbol. My personal transition began with the Dobbs decision so it follows the first iteration conveys a distinctly feminine visage. I prefer to think of it as a declaration of the end...a warning they have gone too far. A promise to vote against everyone who endangers my right to healthcare, my right to assess personal risk, my right to IVF, my right to contraception. The list goes on.
The first deliverable I propose to make available will be a 2” x 2” removable vinyl square sticker in Democrat’s blue on a white background. I will specify the highest quality vinyl with light glue so it will not mar paint or plastic after application. I will ship prepaid orders in multiples of 100 for $50.00 each, plus actual postage and handling. I would give them away but I don’t want to give anyone a stick to beat my wallet up. I want these to be cheap enough that people can give them away at protest events or sell them for a dollar for a little profit so it will be sustainable. We can use Venmo or PayPal or the like.
I look forward to your opinions or interest. Finished artwork to follow. The font available did not portray the Omega symbol accurately. What I want to confirm today is how alone am I...really? Would anyone else like to see/project confirmation of like minded people of good will? Are we afraid to take a stand in our communities?
