When Tornadoes Struck His State, GOP U.S. Senator John Boozman Begged Donald to Reconsider Denying Federal Aid April 24, 2025

We’ve seen and heard this time and time again. GOP lawmakers yell and vote against giving aid to states hit by natural disasters. After all, these states must make their constituents pull themselves up by their own “bootstraps”-- classic GOP ideology. However, when disasters hit their own states, these GOPers quickly demand all the help they can get, and suddenly sound like Democrats pushing for disaster assistance. They are complete hypocrites. Exhibit A– Arkansas senior Republican Senator John Boozman. On March 14, 2025, 15 tornadoes struck the Natural State. Arkansas, remember, had handily voted for Demagogue/dictator wannabe Donald three times by margins of 27% in 2016 and 2020, and 30.6% in 2024. https://www.google.com/search?q=cohen+%26+cook+almanac+email+address&rlz=1C1VDKB_enUS1105US1105&oq=Cohen+%26+Cook+Almanac%2C+email+&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgBECEYoAEyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigAdIBCTI2ODI2ajBqNKgCCLACAfEF2mGSFMeA6hA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

And how did Donald reward these loyal “Team Red” Deep South voters who today would probably not have voted for their native son Democrat Bill Clinton? By refusing to give them aid. GOP AR Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a former press Secretary in the Trump 1.0 administration, joined that state’s two U.S. GOP Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton in writing a letter on April 21, 2025 asking him to reconsider his rejection of disaster aid. They noted that three people had been killed in their state because of these severe storms and that widespread damage and destruction had occurred in their state. So far, Trump has given them no help. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2025/4/23/2318139/-Republicans-forced-to-beg-Trump-to-help-their-state-after-he-said-no It’s time to meet Senator Boozman.

Third-term GOPer John Nichols Boozman (74) is currently Arkansas’ senior U.S. Senator. Shreveport, Louisiana native Boozman’s father was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Boozman’s late older brother Fay, like his younger brother, was also a politician. John Boozman attended the University of Arkansas, but did not graduate from it. In 1977, Boozman graduated from the Southern College of Optometry and entered private practice that year. He became a major provider of eye care to Northwest AR and established a low vision program at the Arkansas School for the Blind in Little Rock. He additionally worked as a volunteer optometrist at an area clinic that helped low-income families. Before his election to Congress, Boozman served two terms on the Rogers, AR Public School Board. In 2004, Boozman won a special election to the U.S. House to replace his predecessor, GOPer Asa Hutchinson, who resigned to head the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Boozman served in the House from 2001-2011. From 2003-2011, Boozman was an Assistant House GOP Whip who helped secure Republican votes for legislation. https://www.thealmanacofamericanpolitics.com

Boozman handily won all his House elections. In 2010, Boozeman announced he would run for the Senate. In Nov., 2010, he easily defeated two-term incumbent Democrat Blanche Lincoln getting nearly 58% of the vote. https://www.nytimes.com/elections/2010/results/arkansas.html Boozman easily won-reelection to the Senate in 2016 and 2022 as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John-Boozman

Right-wing Senator Boozman supported Donald’s 2016 presidential campaign and supported Trump’s position 91.5% of the time. He voted to acquit Trump in both of his impeachment trials. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John-Boozman

And here is where Senator Boozman stands on the major political issues facing the country. He opposes abortion. After the Supreme Ct’s “Dobbs” decision that overturned “Roe v. Wade,” Sen. Boozman stated, “The Supreme Court’s decision to affirm that there is no constitutional right to indiscriminately sacrifice the lives of children in their mothers’ wombs is the culmination of decades of work to correct the tragic, deadly lie that unborn babies are expendable and undeserving of protection.”

Boozman also voted against Obamacare. He stated the bill did “more harm than good.” Boozman additionally received an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association. He further voted for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, which did not pass. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John-Boozman

Boozman will continue to be safely re-elected in heavily Scots-Irish Protestant Arkansas, an area that since the Reagan era has turned away from its original Jacksonian Democratic heritage. The only way he can be made irrelevant is by Democrats voting in droves to retake the Senate.
