An admittedly personal reality check about Trump's dropping poll numbers. [1]

I completely understand feeling both cheerful and puzzled by recent polls showing dropping approval numbers for Trump and his policies. Right now his overall numbers are in the 40’s and polling about most if not all of his policies are lower than that. He is “Underwater” in almost every approve/disapprove poll on himself and his policies.

To me these poll numbers reflect a couple of troubling realities:

1) There is a hard core base of about 1/3 of Americans who will openly support a demented incompetent fascist no matter WHAT he does.

2) This poll just says that many people do not approve of his policies. I do not see any polling that proves that any Democrat is MORE popular than Trump nationally. For several years Democratic party POLICIES have polled much better than GOP policies, but Dem POLITICIANS have lost to GOP politicians. At the moment Dems have the advantage of putting Trump on the defensive without having to defend anyone in particular.

I hate to be the turd in the punchbowl here, but these are his numbers when he and the MAGA media machine do not have a central Democrat to demonize. His numbers may be relatively low, but during an election year when they have a proven propaganda machine ready to be aimed at whatever Democrat is on the ballot they will work tirelessly to make the argument about the “Woke Democrat” rather than defend themselves.

I’ve seen this movie. Until the Dems can present energetic (Younger in many cases) candidates who are willing to make bold policy proposals addressing income inequality then I fear we will not see much meaningful change in our next election cycle. We have seen where weak sauce candidates get us. We had a proven convicted felon insurrectionist to run against in the last presidential election and we lost all 3 branches of government.

I am hoping that AOC, Jasmine Crockett, Jamie Raskin and others of their ilk can rise to national prominence and POWER within the DNC or else I fear we are bound to watch the same god damned movie again.
