TRUMP/MUSK HAVE DEATHWISH FOR THE VULNERABLE: The Anti-Pope [1]

The glaring contrast between the goodness and compassion of Pope Francis and the iniquity of Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and the DOGE critters is brought into unavoidable focus now that the whole world mourns the Pope’s passing. Let’s start with a brief historical note. The highly regarded British medical journal The Lancet issued a report by the Commission on Public Policy and Health in the Trump Era, released on February 20, 2021. It concluded, “Faced with the pandemic, Trump suppressed scientific data, delayed testing, mocked and blocked mask-wearing, and convened mass gatherings where social distancing was impossible. . . he pulled the U.S. out of the World Health Organization.” Trump publicly dismissed the threat of COVID-19, early on likening it to the flu that would “pass in a few days.” (Trump contracted a near deadly case of COVID-19 that required hospitalization and extraordinary medical intervention not widely available to us common folk). The result, according to this blistering critique of Trump’s incompetence addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, resulted in almost 200,000 unnecessary American deaths. The same report concludes that Trump’s rollback of environmental federal protections resulted in 22,000 avoidable deaths in 2019 alone.

Now returned to the presidency, Trump’s psychopathic apathy regarding the deaths that are occurring and will continue to occur as a result of his drive for authoritarian power should repulse anyone who revere’s the model of universal love exhibited by Pope Francis. ProPublica in a March 3, 2025, article cites internal memos from senior USAID leaders warning that Trump’s executive order closing this agency would result in hundreds of thousands of deaths from tuberculosis, malaria, and even polio globally. Cancelled USAID programs “are expected to cause between 12 million and 18 million malaria infections over the next year.” The Musk/DOGE slashathon will likely result in 67,000 deaths from Social Security benefits delays. Additional mindless cuts in medical research grants, aid for the poor, staff firings at the CDC and even the National Weather Service, among others, will massively increase the predictable death toll.

It is crystal clear that Trump and Musk and his DOGE boys couldn’t care less that their direct actions have lethal consequences. They are proud of their obscene trashing of federal programs that save lives every day. So where’s the outrage? Where is the media coverage of this abomination? Mass firings of federal employees is a tragedy and will result in irreparable, long-term damage to our citizens and our country, but the loss of life from these psychopathic actions is beyond stunning and requires a much louder outcry than has occurred thus far. Saving lives is a key reason to fight like hell to bring down this iniquitous administration and the Republican Party that enables such evil.
