Musk Does Not Care if You Die As Long As He Gets Government Money [1]

DOGE is the leading edge of the right’s version of the Communist Cultural Revolution. A strong statement, but look at their effect. DOGE has been at the forefront of reckless and illegal shuttering of government agencies. A few examples:
· Killed a program that tracked cybersecurity issues, including vulnerabilities in our water, power, and sewage infrastructure. Cholera for everyone!
· DOGE Cuts Pull AmeriCorps Volunteers Off of Disaster Relief Jobs | WIRED: Killed AmeriCorps, and so kids working on disaster relief no longer work on disaster relief.
· In the middle of a hepatitis outbreak, CDC shutters the one lab that could help : NPR: Because hepatitis is good now?
· Health and Human Services Systems Are in Danger of Collapsing, Workers Say | WIRED: Put your private health data at risk of being exposed
· Killed sick kids in Africa
· Cut research into life saving drugs and treatments, including obscure diseases like cancer.
· Cut research into vaccines that could prevent cancer.
· Cut aid to a program designed to save teenagers with HIV
· Cut FDA jobs so there are fewer inspections of your food and the places that make your food.
I could go on. They have gutted the systems that turned America into a great and safe economy, not to mention its primary means of soft power. And in its place, Elon Musk gets government contracts and Trump and his backers get massive, budget destroying tax cuts.
Why?
Well, part of it is simple greed. Republicans always want to take money from the working people and hand it to the rich people. But this administration has more nefarious purpose: they really do seem to want to turn American into a neo-feudal hellscape. Administration officials openly call for fired scientists to take jobs in factories and mines. Republicans see universities as their enemies. RFK jr. prances around telling people that only the sick need health care, as if no one ever transitions from healthy to sick. And, of course, they are gutting union protections. Their America is poorer, sicker, less advanced, and more brutal than the one we have today.
They really do want to transform the tiny steps America has made toward social democracy into a nation of serf-like workers. Scared to lose their jobs, with no ability to resit corporate power through unions or alternative careers, with less money spent on educating them and their kids so there are fewer routes to success for them, sicker so that people are terrified to lose their job provided health benefits. To anyone with an ounce of fellow feeling toward their countrymen, this would be an obvious disaster. To people who think empathy is the fundamental weakness of Western Civilization, it probably looks attractive. After all, they won't be the ones suffering.
For all its faults, modern America has been built upon the notion that the comment good benefits, well, everyone. And that supporting the common good, through things like ensuring food and worker safety and helping scientists and philosophers understand such actions would rebound to benefit everyone. today, we have a movement that is actively working to harm people in order to benefit themselves. It is both stupid and immoral and the ruling impulse of the billionaires who have captured our government.
To Musk, sympathy for your sick child is weakness and a government contract to him is strength. They want you in your place. Their vision of the future is a billionaire looking at a sick child asking for help and saying “no”, forever.
