To Paraphrase Al Gore– “It is Time for Pete Hegseth to Go”-- April 21, 2025
Some phrases remain relevant and quotable years later in other contexts. Remember Al Gore’s 1992 acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention when he became Bill Clinton’s VP running mate? He aptly repeated about the HW Bush and Dan Quayle team, “It is time for them to go.” When he conceded to “W” Bush after the “Bush v. Gore” Supreme Ct. ruling in December, 2000, Gore also stated, “It is time for me to go.” Well, in 2025, it is now time for Trump Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to take Al Gore’s advice and go.
On March 15, 2025, in a private Signal group chat that included his wife Jennifer, brother Phil, and personal lawyer, Tim Parlatore, Defense Secretary Hegseth shared on this chat the flight schedules for the F/A-18 Hornets targeting the terrorist Houtis in Yemen. These attack plans were essentially the same ones he had shared on a previous separate Signal chat the same day that mistakenly included the editor of the Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg. Hegseth’s wife, a former Fox News producer, is not a Defense Department employee. She has, however, drawn sharp criticism for accompanying her husband to sensitive meetings with foreign leaders. Hegseth’s brother and lawyer have Pentagon jobs, but neither of them were required to know about the upcoming U.S. military strikes against the Houtis. This second chat in which Hegseth has shared highly sensitive information has put his management and judgment of the DOD (Department of Defense) under scrutiny.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/20/uspolitics/hegseth-yemen-attack-second-signal-chat.html Demagogue/dictator wannabe Donald is still standing behind Hegseth. IMHO, if Hillary or any other political appointee in this position had repeatedly done what Hegseth did here, sloppily releasing sensitive information, he/she would not only have been immediately fired ASAP, but, no doubt, would have faced prosecution. However, inept Hegseth, working for extremist Donald, remains at his Pentagon position. Meet Pete Hegseth.
Minneapolis, Minnesota native Peter Brian Hegseth (44) received his Bachelor’s from Princeton University where he published for “The Princeton Tory,” a conservative student newspaper. In 2003, he was commissioned as an infantry officer in the MN National Guard. In that outfit, he served at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and was deployed both to Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2014, he became a contributor to GOP-leaning Fox News. After supporting Donald in his 2016 campaign, Hegseth served as a Trump advisor. From 2017-2024, Hegseth was co-host of “Fox and Friends Weekend.” He is also the author of several books, including the 2020 “American Crusade” and the 2024 “The War on Warriors.” Hegseth was nominated by Trump to serve as Secretary of Defense after Trump won his second term. During his confirmation hearing, he faced allegations of sexual misconduct, financial mismanagement, and alcohol issues. However, despite these charges, the GOP-controlled Senate, with pressure from Trump, confirmed Hegseth with VP JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. Hegseth is the second-youngest person to serve as Defense Secretary.

In the Pentagon, Hegseth is unable to keep sensitive information secret, but he sure is one “heck of a cultural warrior.” He pushed to rename Fort Liberty, Fort Bragg, after a Confederate General, although that fort was later named after a WWII soldier. Hegseth visited the Mexican-U.S. border and spoke of regaining “operational control of the area.” Translation: keeping immigrants from getting across the border. Under Hegseth, the Defense Department invited Jack Prosobiec, an alt-right political activist, to accompany him to NATO headquarters. Ibid
Hegseth, in fact, according to the NY Times, had been warned a day or two before the Yemen strikes not to discuss such sensitive operational details in his signal group chat, which, while encrypted, is not considered as secure as government channels typically used for discussing highly sensitive war planning and combat operations. However, he ignored this warning, or even worse, could care less about such matters.
Hegseth is oh so typical of the type of substandard people Donald has hired to run major institutions in our government. He is a Trump boot-licker and nothing else matters for him. In the 2026 midterms, Democrats must retake the House, and work hard to recapture the Senate as well. In 2028, we must come out in droves plus to defeat the likes of Hegseth and his boss Trump. Our democracy depends upon it.
