Hands Off Blue Origin

Saturday there was another nationwide Hands-Offs Protests, millions showed up once more to protest the descent into fascism, and whether it be media, podcasters, independent, influencers, social media, or other means of information, my timelines were filled with coverage of Blue Origins that happened on the 14th.

Yes, there was the occasional posts filled with funny signs grab screens of the protests, lots of 60’ videos, but commentary was mostly about the failed PR messaging of all women space launch and a constant stream of belittling the Kathy Perry and Gayle Kings of said launch. It too until today yes this morning for me to learn there were actually 2 bona fide scientists women aboard that capsule. Did you hear about them? No of course not you were too busy dunking on Perry and Gayle for their comments.

Now I’m not a reporter or a commentator or even an influencer, but if you were so offended by the “rich spoiled women” aspect of this launch, why on earth didn’t you focus on the scientists on board and praise them or tell their stories so people would know their names?

I tried a search….

Hmmm

Here we go!

Aisha Bowe is a former NASA rocket scientist, entrepreneur and a global STEM advocate. She is also the CEO of STEMBoard and the founder of LINGO, an education technology company. Ahead of the flight, Aisha said that she and her crewmates would be “expanding the art of possible” with their mission.

Aisha, who is Bahamian and American, held up a Bahamian flag after the flight as a “powerful reminder of the past, the present and the future of space.”

Amanda Nguyen The final member of the Blue Origin flight crew was Amanda Nguyen, a bioastronautics research scientist. Amanda is a graduate of Harvard who did research at Harvard Center for Astrophysics, MIT, NASA and the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences.

“As the first Vietnamese woman to go to space, I’m flying for Vietnamese girls to see themselves in the stars,” she said in February 2025.

When the flight returned from its mission, Amanda said, “What a beautiful world we have. If I got there, you can get there, too.”

But what fun would it be talking about women scientists, when you can make fun of Perry and King and Bezo’s fiancée right? What ratings would that bring? How many clicks and likes? No, outrage is the game and ratings the fame! Am I right?

As for the Hands-Off 2nd protest day, maybe they should ask Perry and some other celebrities to do a bit of walking along so they get the coverage they deserve.
