Gov. Newsom Tries to Channel his Inner Martin Niemöller
First they came for Mohsen Mahdawi because he spoke out against the genocide in Gaza.
And I did not speak out
Because I am fine with liquidating Palestine.
Then they came for Kilmar Abrego Garcia
And I did not speak out because his rights to due process—all rights to due process—are a “distraction” because I feel the important thing is making sure Trump’s tariffs are “accountable to the markets.”
Then they came for Rümseya Öztürk for writing an opinion in the Tufts University Newspaper. Unidentified men in an unidentified van kidnapping her off the street for her political opinions.
And I did not speak out because I am more interested in being President than in our Democracy.
Yes, they are coming for anyone who supports the Constitution, for anyone whose sexuality scares them, for black generals and women admirals because their competence terrifies their little racist hearts.
But they won’t come for me. I am not planning to defy them. I have already abandoned the rights of trans people. I plan to perform the illusion of resistance, not actually practice it.
After all, as a white man worth $20 million with good corporate connections I’ll be ok, even if I don’t get to be president, tragic as that would be.
Vote Newsom 2028!!! If we get to vote.

To be fair (?) on April 10 Newsom expressed “serious concern about the recent deportation of pool from the United States without due process.” What a stand Governor! What a performance!
