A big welcome to all of you who are new to this series, which I publish Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This series is born out of frustration with seeing people on social media and this site say, “Where are the Dems?” or “What are the Dems doing?” This is not meant as an exhaustive list, but merely as a highlight of the types of the activities and statements they’re doing and making.
Please, before you complain about the party, take a few minutes of time to see if your concerns are being addressed.
I also encourage EVERYONE to check out the following diary series. lpeacock does Thursday diaries on the Congressional Black Caucus. Dfh1 is doing a Monday and Friday series that spotlight individual Democrats. T2 has also just begun a series called the Rainbow Roundup, where focus is placed on LGBTQ lawmakers and journalists. And Billboteach has one focusing on Hispanic elected Democrats.
You can gain easy access to all these diaries by following the Democratic Party Spotlight Group.
Due Process for all.
Sadly we are still dealing with the current administration’s illegal actions.
x It is time for Trump to put up or shut up in Court. A FEDERAL JUDGE said “no evidence before the court connects Abrego Garcia to MS-13 or any criminal organization.” No one is vouching for one man. We are standing up for EVERYONE’s right to due process under the Constitution. — Senator Chris Van Hollen (@vanhollen.senate.gov) April 18, 2025 at 4:55 PM
x I went to El Salvador hoping to meet with Kilmar and check on his well-being, and I had the chance to do that last night. Our courts have been clear: this was an ILLEGAL abduction. I’m speaking now about my meeting with Kilmar and our work to bring him home:

x This is an absolute *must read* opinion from Judge Wilkinson on the Fourth Circuit - a very conservative judge - in the Abrego Garcia case.

x The Dallas ICE office is involved in a mass removal effort targeting nearly 200 people — many without removal orders — scheduled to be deported to El Salvador today. This is not just cruel – it is lawless. I refuse to stay quiet while families are being torn apart, and lives are being put at risk.

x Trump said he wanted to take away due process for immigrants–something conservative judges think is unconstitutional—and he did. He says he wants to ship American citizens to foreign countries, believe him and do not wait to speak out against his abhorrent actions.
[image or embed] — Sen. Cory Booker (@booker.senate.gov) April 18, 2025 at 12:43 PM
x Over 1,000 international students had their legal status snatched by the Trump admin—no warning, no hearing, no due process. This ain’t immigration policy. It’s a power trip.

x Mr. Trump—I’ve known Chris Van Hollen since the last century, and the last thing anyone who knows him would call him is a grandstander. He’s a defender of human rights. You should meet with him—you could learn something.

Democratic Daily Download.
x Trump and congressional Republicans want to give more than $4 trillion in tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy –and they’re planning to pay for it by gutting nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid.
On today’s Democratic Daily Download, @RepGregLandsman breaks down the math and what it will… pic.twitter.com/FOt8VWgJV3 — House Democrats (@HouseDemocrats) April 18, 2025
x As part of today's Medicaid Matters Day of Action, @RepKimSchrier and House Democrats across the country are fighting to protect this vital lifeline from Republican cuts.

Democrats doing Democratic things…
x This week, alongside Ranking Member Connolly and DOGE Ranking Member Stansbury, I led an inquiry demanding answers from GSA about this shady “fire sale” of federal property. — Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (@repjasmine.bsky.social) April 18, 2025 at 11:31 AM
x Sky-high prices for lifesaving drugs, like insulin, hurt families all over America. And the Trump administration is doing nothing to lower them–in fact, they’re doing the opposite. Here are the facts 🧵

x Donald Trump is defunding Head Start and exacerbating Wisconsin’s child care crisis before our very eyes — leaving parents with no option for child care. I will fight this with every fiber of my being. www.jsonline.com/story/news/l...

x My mom was an actress—I was raised in the theater. I know that when productions are made in Hollywood, it’s not just the big stars who benefit—the union members and small businesses who make it all happen see the rewards too. I’m fighting to ensure production stays in LA.

x Activism is the antidote to fear. We will oppose every attack on democracy, freedom and the rule of law. And we will defeat fascism in America.

x Our children are the future.
Expanding the Child Tax Credit isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do. We’ve already done it before with great results—let’s do it again and make it permanent. pic.twitter.com/0qT12gV8m6 — Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (@SenatorWarnock) April 16, 2025
x SARA EISEN: What evidence are you pointing to that this is a corrupt policy?
ELIZABETH WARREN: He announces a tariff policy, says there's no exceptions, and then says "I talked to Tim Cook." Oh really?
EISEN: Shouldn't he?
WARREN: Then he follows it up saying, "Great deal… pic.twitter.com/gkLvD4w6bf — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) April 17, 2025
x Making your voice heard is critical to making our state—and our nation—a better place. Thank you to everyone who came out to participate in my town hall conversations with @RepValHoyle in Curry, Coos, and Douglas counties on Tuesday. pic.twitter.com/AdtdM8vmGL — Senator Jeff Merkley (@SenJeffMerkley) April 17, 2025
x RM @RepGregoryMeeks: That the Trump admin sees an office fighting terrorist and foreign propaganda as the threat—not the propaganda itself—says everything about the far right’s grip on GOP foreign policy.

x The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Act I helped lead through the FL legislature raised our state’s age to buy a gun to 21. Without that bipartisan law, the 20-yr-old FSU shooter who stole his mom’s gun could’ve legally bought AR-15s, and this horrific tragedy could’ve been even worse.

x Stop 11 on my 19-county rural tour: Martin County!
I got to see some incredible things at the Historical Society in Fairmont, including Civil War love letters, pictures of Paul McCartney’s visit, and an iron lung. Best part: a tribute to VP Mondale, who grew up in the county. pic.twitter.com/bmHpI5Yqz0 — Amy Klobuchar (@amyklobuchar) April 17, 2025
x In Warwick today, RIers with disabilities shared their personal stories on how Medicaid supports their care, independence, and dignity.
Republican cuts to Medicaid put all this at risk.
These voices must be heard—and my colleagues should reverse course on their disastrous cuts. pic.twitter.com/OhwdHTnx2p — Congressman Seth Magaziner (@Rep_Magaziner) April 17, 2025
I’m sharing two posts from Senator Murray because they’re good examples of the home state work that Members of Congress do on weekends and recesses. To the “where are the Dems?” folks — this is one of the places they can be.
x Washington state is the number one apple-producing state in the country & it relies heavily on international trade.
I met with farmers in Yakima to hear firsthand how they need access to global markets to succeed.
[image or embed] — Senator Patty Murray (@murray.senate.gov) April 18, 2025 at 4:39 PM
x Had an incredible morning watching Yakama Nation members dipnet fishing on the Klickitat River. I also spoke with Tribal leadership about their concerns that Trump's illegal funding freeze could impact their federal support for forest management and wildfire support.

x Trump’s reckless tariffs are already having direct impacts on NV small businesses. I joined Orucase in Reno to speak out against this national sales tax that is going to raise prices for Nevadans and make it harder for small businesses to survive.

x Thank you Howard County! I joined Congresswoman Elfreth and County Executive Ball in meeting Maryland seniors at our Howard County Town Hall. Your concerns are my concerns. I am fighting for you against this lawless and callous Administration.

Protests and protest signs!
I encourage you to look at the entire thread of these posts. There was a variety of messages projected on the church Friday night.
This one is an example of the kinds of protests that are happening across this country EVERY DAY. It’s encouraging and something to keep in mind when you’re feeling low about the state of the country.
This was actually in Michigan, and Rachel corrected it in a reply to this post.
x Wisconsin: "An overflow crowd Wednesday night praised commissioners for taking a stance against Trump Administration demands... "Commissioners echoed the defiance of the public saying they will do all legally possible to protect the privacy of employees and residents."

x Trump’s plan to gut the VA will leave thousands of veterans without access to the health care they need, and will devastate an entire workforce.
I was proud to join nurses in San Diego to stand up for our veterans.
