GSA Federal Fire Sale of Property - Crockett & Connolly Notice [1]

Wouldn't have spotted it if I hadn't looked at Jasmine Crockett's X account.

The whole Trump administration is all about money and the business of making money.

Jasmine is more than a month late. On March 9th a real estate company spotted it first. The General Services Administration announced 41 properties in D.C. were offered, only to be removed hours later. But a real estate company, Fox Homes, had the list.

Among them were:

J. Edgar Hoover Building - FBI Hubert H. Humphrey Building - HHS James V. Forrestal - Dept. of Energy Francis Perkins - Dept. of Labor Robert F. Kennedy Building - Dept. of Justice GSA Headquarters - irony Old Post Office Building

The Old Post Office Building used to be Trump International Hotel, and Trump sold the lease to a consortium and pocketed $370 million. Trump is interested in buying it back. When Trump had it, the hotel was kept busy during his first term by diplomats and US politicians making stays, sometime paying for rooms and never using them.

But the GSA took them off the sale list. Why? Fox Homes had a bunch of reasons why. Political pressure. Market conditions. Undisclosed negotiations. When I saw the 7 properties above, my first choice was historical and legal challenges. Selling a historical landmark raises all kinds of red flags. It's not exactly easy to hide.

Fox Homes had a long article on why everybody should be on the lookout for GSA offerings to come.

Then GSA did start sales.

April 14th, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Rep. Gerald Connolly and Rep. Melanie Stanbury sent a letter to Stephen Ehlikan, acting Administrator of the General Services Administration, showing their concern about the GSA selling off Federal properties without any input about the need or the right to do it.

The five page letter (PDF).

The web page describing the letter and the issues involved.

Here's a list of properties GSA wants to sell right away.

At the top of the GSA page are properties put up on April 17th. Each one has a Google Maps link to show you the location and a picture of the property. One of them is a courthouse in Portland, OR. We're selling a Federal courthouse? Is this the way of getting rid of those troublesome U.S. District judges that rule against Trump, by selling their courthouse? Republicans have threatened getting rid of districts and so has Trump.

Other Building types:

Customs warehouses Social Security District Offices Warehouses Federal building offices of all different sizes

We have no idea if these buildings are currently occupied. DOGE and the GSA could care less.

Crocket, Connolly and Stanbury's letter demands an accounting of all types of information and proper procedures for selling a building. Who, what, when, where and why. Like Jasmine says in her post, the way it is set up now is a way for Trump's rich friends to snap up government property for pennies on the dollar.

Every day there is a scandal that would have forced any other president out of office.

Here's another one.
