Wrapped in my Black Skin [1]

Wrapped in my black skin…

Wrapped in my black skin, I listen and wonder

Do you know what it's like, to hear your arguments

about how your children are being indoctrinated

by the teachings of my side of history

How it will damage their psyche

If they should hear about slavery

and deeds committed by their ancestors

Wrapped in my black skin, I watch you and wonder

Do you know what it's like, to listen to your whining?

About cancel culture and replacement theories

As you take idiotic stances over potato heads

And throw childish tantrums overs caricatures

As my history is being wiped

As my rights are being removed

Wrapped in my black skin, I close my eyes to ponder

Do you know what it's like, to see you dive into your privilege?

As you bemoan the fact that blacks can't let it go

While you chant never forget dates of import to you

Tragedies that happened to your own kind

But you'd deny me even the right to my memories

As not to feel even the littlest discomfort

Wrapped in my black skin, I muse silently

Do you know what it's like, to watch you spin tall tales

Spilling crocodile tears over the death of a woman

Who invaded the very seat of our democracy

While you still spew, he or she deserved it

Every time those wrapped in black skin are killed

Over far less offensive offenses, sometimes even none

Wrapped in my black skin, I can't help but think

As you whip yourself into a frenzy of rage

Over your own made-up silly grievances

That as the earth warms and the sun burns hotter

Maybe in the not-so-distant future

You will also be wrapped in a black skin

And I can finally stop wondering

If you know anything

About how we feel

Those of us

Wrapped in black skins

trying against all odds

To quell the rising tide

Of our resentment
