Don't Gatekeep Resistance [1]

You see this a lot on Reddit, where (supposed) posters from Europe ridicule people in the United States for what they perceive as “inadequate” resistance. “You gotta do it like they do it in France…..!” If we are not assaulting cops, or setting fires, then we are not for real. The Resistance is in its infancy, and we are going to need every single body we can get out there if we think we can change the course of this nightmare. Gatekeeping demoralizes the fencesitters.
Don’t go around judging others’ efforts, or shaming anyone who is not sufficiently performing rage for social media clout. Resistance takes many forms, some of them invisible. Consuming less, eating less, reproducing less, all of these help starve the oligarchs. Street protests play their role, but I worry about the “harder core than thou” stuff that circulates on the left.
My wife has never attended a protest in her life. We will be out there* on Saturday because they kidnapped a guy up in the Bronx and sent him to El Salvador. If I was him, I would want crowds in the streets, and we can’t have that if timid people are put off by the firebrands. Don’t discourage would-be allies at a crucial juncture in this movement. Everybody is doing everything they can.
Sorry for the short diary, but this has been on my mind and I wanted to put it out there.
