David Hogg, primaries and Caution [1]

I have nothing against primaries, for that is when you should make your voices heard and select a candidate. I have nothing against new blood, they youth is after all the ones who will inherit the mess we’ve created. I am neither a fan nor a critic of David Hogg, my opinion is that it’s good to have ideals, but when in power ideals take a backseat to reality and what can be done under the rule of law. (Don’t break the law, change the law).

On the matter of primarying incumbents, I have concerns. We have been fooled before and it has cost us dearly. There have been “young blood” that has run under the banner of democrats, won primaries, won seats, settled in, only to change parties once seated and this in local elections and in national elections. We cannot afford to be fooled again.

In this current atmosphere we need a super majority in the house and senate, because we need to be able to pass laws that cannot be vetoed and we need to block and reverse the damage done thus far by this administration. Therefore, we must be sure of our candidates. One of the laws I wish would be proposed is to remove anyone who ran under false premises if a democrat wins a democrat should hold the seat and vice versa.

Is this really the time to press our luck? To gamble with new faces, who might be hiding their games? People, we don’t know if they can be bought or swayed to change sides? Looking at you Nancy Mace and Tulsi Gabbard. How many more are out there saying all the right things but biding their time? How can we be sure of their allegiance to democratic and progressive values?

We better make damn sure we know their true colors before we get hoisted by our own petards once more. We cannot afford to make mistakes. The fate of this country is hanging by a tread, the devastation caused by the current administration will already take years to heal.

I don’t know who you mean to primary, I heard new blood so my assumption is it’s the older officials. I don’t know who will run against them, I’m just advising caution. I’m no fan of every elected democrats for various reasons, but I’m not looking for friends or heroes among politicians I’m looking for people who will vote on what they ran on.

There’s nothing wrong with deciding to go to a picnic, but there’s something wrong with deciding to go to a picnic in the middle of a hurricane.

Sometimes you have to wait for the right time to do the right thing. Doing the right thing at the wrong time can be catastrophic.
