As I write this diary I’m multitasking on a webinar hosted by Red Wine and Blue, “The Reality of Project 2025 with Heather Cox Richardson and Rep. Jasmine Crockett”. I haven’t done a Red Wine and Blue event before, but holy pooties are there a lot of folks on this call — they said at its max there were 40000 folks on the call. It included people I’ve called friends for most of my life yet didn’t know they participated in things like this (SO cool to get a message to make sure I knew about it from someone I didn’t expect, he made my day!).

It’s so exciting to see and hear the enthusiasm for this webinar. And I KNOW you remember a mere week ago when it seems like half the country was at a Hands Off event! Did you attend or watch any of the gigantic, somewhere between 35000-60000+ folks attending the AOC/Bernie rally in Los Angeles featuring Joan Baez and Neil Young?

It feels like the heady 100 days of the Kamala/Walz campaign, doesn’t it? When all the events were so jam-packed we mere mortals had to watch online? Not to mention the almost-nightly calls for every affinity group you could imagine. From White Dudes to Black Women to Crazy Cat Ladies, there was a call.

I’m feeling so inspired, and Saturday a friend told me how inspired and hopeful he was watching the LA Rally. I said to him:

I was inspired at all the enthusiasm for Hillary. For Kamala. For #MeToo. For #BlackLivesMatter. For Pussy hats and Marches for Science and all of it. But... ::sound of needle scratching across old-school vinyl record:: Here we are once again. Dare I get my hope up once again, that maybe we the people can rise up and get us out of this mess and elect someone GOOD for America again?

I’m feeling scared this is another moment where people want to go to a big call or a march and it’s not going to do a goddamned thing when the next election rolls around. And I’m hoping you, my good reader, have something to inspire me.

In all honesty, I suspect this is a momentary lapse in my enthusiasm thanks to March and early April being very, very difficult months both personally and nationally. But hope and enthusiasm are always welcome! As a matter of fact, I’m planning on attending MY political enthusiam hub, Netroots Nation, for the 19th year (I missed 2022 breaking a perfect record) and if that isn’t hope and optimism, I don’t know what is!

So… gimme some hope in the comments. Tell me about a conversation you had with someone that gave you hope. What are you doing to manifest the future we want and hope for?
