Not, Incompetence [1]

This is my latest article in the Words Matter series here. Ever since “Liberation Day,” there has been a steady chorus in the media that the economic downturn or collapse that we are now experiencing is the result of gross incompetence on the part of people who don’t understand what they’re doing. While that sounds like a plausible answer, it is instead another excellent example of how we’re letting language get the better of us.
By calling this incompetence instead of what it actually is, we miss the entire intent behind what’s happening. And when we don’t understand a thing, how can we ever expect to defeat it?
The question here is simple — is this action accidental (the implication behind the word incompetence) or is it deliberate (which then requires a different word to describe it — I’ve offered one up in the form of “Deconstruction”). What exactly was the intent of the Trump Tariff policy and Liberation Day? I tackled that in a previous article — but the synopsis is this — the intent was to wreck the global financial ecosystem and remove the United States from its current dominant position . Make America Great Again was always Doublespeak code for “Make America Weak” — the Russians just can’t help themselves with these.
Thus it stands to reason, that if the intent for the Tariffs was to cause market turmoil by unleashing non-stop chaos and uncertainty — then guess what? Mission accomplished ! The Trump 2.0 administration is not being incompetent at all with their incoherent trade war— they are in fact achieving their intended goals with great rapidity. The tariff policy was never meant to make sense, how can one create uncertainty that way?
The only questions we should be asking now are; 1) why is this all happening in such a big hurry and 2) do they think that once the current global order is broken, that they can control the chaos that they’re unleashing? The answers to these questions are key to crafting our Opposition and also for predicting how things will play out. While I’m fairly certain that we’re about to experience the first global Depression since my grandparent’s time, I’m also fairly certain it’s not going to benefit the Faux Populist Far Right in the way that they thought it might (we’ll tackle that in a future post).
