Clarification on “border” issues, please [1]

I have been alarmed by various heinous stories on this site.

They involve the actions ofUS border officials that have resulted in confiscation of personal iPhones resulting in incarceration of people reentering the USA.

Several here have recommended to buy a “burner” phone if one plans to return to the USA after visiting another country even if that country is a “westernized nation” i.e. Canada, Britain ,France etc.

I would like to request KOS members to please enlighten me on the various aspects to this very disturbing suject.

Before I pose my questions to you,here is my situation:

I am a naturalized dual citizen of the USA and aslo a naturalized Canadian citizen.My place of birth is Budapest,Hungary.

We live just across the Canadian border in Washington state.I need to drive my wife to the Vancouver BC airport soon.

On re entering the USA:

1. Can the USA border agent, without any warrant or suspicion of due cause, perform a forensic evaluation of my personal iPhone and all its computer related contents?

2. If the border agent finds any negative comment or post by me that they determined to be insulting or critical of the current administration in any context ,could I be detained or not allowed back into the country?Or fined or be subject to any “violation” of the law.

( If the above are true, then a pure police state is in force in the USA.)

4. If 1 and 2 are valid and true, where is the push back and protest ?

5.Should I contact my local congressperson and senator regarding my concerns?Or is that a waste of time…..?

Thanks for reading and clarifying .I hope some reassurance can be given.

If not ,my wife and I will have to make some hard choices.
