How Do You Like Your Blue-eyed Boy Now, Mister Death? [1]

I know cummings’ poem is about Buffalo Bill, and admiringly so: reproaching Death for selfishly taking him, but every time I learn of some new horror coming out of the White House, soon to be headed for the Supreme Court, I can’t help but hear this line in my head. Every time I even see photos of John Roberts, I hear this line.
Turns out the word “now” is not actually in the poem—I seem to have inserted it into my memory of the poem years and years ago. But the now is important for my reference to Justice Roberts, Trump’s enabler, when you think of him in a Sorcerer’s Apprentice/Pandora’s Box kind of light—as in, be careful what you wish for…
