Why Run in a Deep Red District?
The Virginia Department of Elections has confirmed that I will be on the ballot as the Democratic candidate of the Virginia House of Delegates, District 48, for the general election this year – on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The Virginia House of Delegates is one of the two houses of the Virginia General Assembly, the other being the Senate of Virginia. It has 100 members elected for terms of two years; unlike most states, these elections take place during odd-numbered years.
As of April 8, 2025, the Virginia GOP has House of Delegates candidates are running in only 66 of 100 possible openings. Meanwhile, Virginia Democrats currently have House of Delegates candidates running for 96 of 100 possible campaigns. Way to show up Dems! As my father (who was a legendary area basketball coach) often said, “Stats matter. If you don't play, you can't win. Forfeit is never an option.”
Democratic House of Delegate Candidate Jobs in Strong Republican districts:
1. Make their opponents actually run a campaign and inform voters of their platform.
2. Make 'em spend money which would have ordinarily gone to other districts.
3. Increase the point spread, and encourage more candidates to step up in the future. WIN!
4. Be the point guard to support all up ballot Democratic Candidates like Abigail Spanberger !
As a final note, during my first canvas (for this election) I cannot tell you how many times our rural voters didn't know Spanberger's name! However, many knew my father’s. So, I know the plan, not to only run for me, but also Abigail Spanberger for Governor, and all up ballot candidates to come.
