The Cognitive Dissonance - how do we win? [1]

I stopped going to my old barbershop because they kept messing up my hair, picked a new one from a friend’s recommendation.
The barber did a great job, and we chatted a for a bit, and it went to politics. I found out that he’s from a majority-Muslim middle eastern country, he made it to the USA on “the last flight” before Trump’s Muslim ban, he had family members who couldn’t come join him and got stuck in Turkey for 6 years. They were able to join him finally, while Biden was President (on the timeline. he didn’t say anything about Biden).
I asked if he had kids. No. He wanted to back to his home country to find a wife, but he doesn’t think he’d be able to make it back into the USA or take someone with him.
Being a middle-aged white guy, maybe I’m oversensitive and don’t want to be mistaken for a Trump supporter, so I just shook my head and made a comment “I can’t believe that guy won. He’s terrible.”
How does my barber respond? I’ll paraphrase as best I can.
“It makes no difference who wins. I’m not really a conspiracy theorist, but the rich people control everything.”
I don’t want to push into somebody else’s business and tell them they’re missing something obvious, so I let it go rather than point this out. Maybe I should have:
Your own family was separated by Trump’s policies. Biden fixed it for you. Now your life is being hurt by Trump again, and “it makes no difference” who wins?!?
good grief. It’s a wonder our democracy has made it this far when human reasoning can be this nonfunctional.
