Not with the USA. That likely won't happen anytime soon.

But they are quickly initiating negotiations with current and former US allies.

EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic spoke with Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao in the last 24 hours and both sides agreed to look into setting minimum prices, the EU spokesperson said.

China's Commerce Ministry said in a statement that negotiations were set to start immediately.

Last October, the EU had imposed tariffs of unto 49% on Chinese made EVs. This move was aimed directly at Chinese EV maker BYD (and others) who are now able to out-compete Tesla (and European EV makers) on price. The move mirrors a similar move meant to benefit Tesla made by Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.

That is now likely going to change. Expect to see a similar slate of negotiations happening elsewhere as well.
