ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE’s Electronic Warfare Systems Now Jamming Russian Glide Bombs [1]

Early in the Spring of 2024 and throughout the month’s long hold up of aid to Ukraine by the Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Russians unleashed a new front line weapon, the FAB/KAB glide bombs, which enabled them to pulverize hardened Ukrainian defensive positions. The race to Pokrovsk was on. It was devastating. And Ukraine seemingly had no answer. German news outlet, Deutsche Welle(commonly shortened to DW) had this to say in May 2024:

And many of us who hold Ukraine’s cause close to our hearts anguished over Ukraine being seemingly helpless against this new threat. But needless to say ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE went to work. First they came up with the easiest solution with what they immediately and readily had on hand...using the Soviet-era ZU-23-2 guns to bring down the glide bombs. However, that was a temporary fix as Ukraine upped its game to electronically defeat the Russian glide bombs. And today, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the CinC of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed that the reason we continue to hear less and less about the Russian glide bombs is that:
Ukraine’s Electronic Warfare Now Jams Russian Glide Bombs, Top Ukraine’s General Confirms Syrskyi confirmed for the first time that electronic warfare (EW) systems are now Ukraine’s primary defense against Russian glide bombs, including KABs equipped with UMPK kits. These bombs rely heavily on satellite navigation, which can be jammed or spoofed to mislead them off course. While EW doesn’t destroy the bomb itself, it renders it ineffective by preventing it from hitting its target. Russia has tried to bolster the resilience of these systems by upgrading their “Kometa-M” protected antennas, increasing from 4 to 12 receiving elements. And not a moment too soon as Russia is supposedly putting into motion one more major Spring offensive to try and break the Ukrainian defensive lines. I say “Good luck with that”, Putin.
Russia is now throwing everything, including the proverbial kitchen sink, in its aerial assault on the innocent civilians of Ukraine. But thankfully the glide bombs are no longer the threat they had been earlier on this year when Russia was also using them to bomb cities away from the front lines.
ADAPTIVE INDOMITABLE UKRAINE … doing whatever it takes to defeat Russia’s unjustified unprovoked revanchist invasion of their homeland.
