When there was some relief from the damage that President Trump had inflicted on financial markets over the past few days, I had initially been dismayed to see headlines touted market recovery. I was a little relieved to see that some did, indeed point out that markets were still not back to the point that they had been before the tariff announcements, and certainly not back where they were before Trump took office. It is also noteworthy that there are probably many people who lost money because they made financial decisions based on what they expected based on Trump’s statements.
However, I am a little relieved after seeing that some of the headlines are not portraying the rebound as a major accomplishment.
The analogy that I might use is that of a man who shot his friend in the leg, then sent him a medical bill for applying a tourniquet.
