Here’s the thing: He loves tariffs. Always has, always will. He does not have a clue how they work, and nobody seems to be able to make him understand how they work, but let’s face it, he believes that tariffs bring money into this country and make us rich, and nothing will change that. So we need to give up on him. We need to lay tariffs, and all other disasters he has inflicted on us, directly at the feet the Republicans in the Senate and Congress. Like firing so many federal workers across the board that the government cannot do its job (which he also loves and will not change his mind). Senators and Congresspeople are subject to elections, they WILL respond to outcries from their constituents. And they DO have the power to make him stop. Tariffs, for example, are constitutionally the property of Congress. But they can be levied by the president in an emergency. He has declared an emergency in order to levy tariffs (which is exactly backwards from the intent, but WTH), but Congress can undeclare the emergency and take back their power over tariffs. Since they so far have refused to do so (and have gone so far as to define the word “day” to mean more than one rotation of the earth, something which I believe even Congress does not have the power to do, in order to avoid doing so) we need to make clear at every opportunity that these are not HIS tariffs, they are Republican tariffs.
Yes, legislators are afraid of being primaried, but they are even more afraid of losing to a Democrat. It is because of Republicans that tariffs are making prices higher and the stock market lower, it is because of Republicans that FEMA will not help the flooded people in the south and midwest, it is because of Republicans that IRS will not answer the phone, it is because of Republicans that your mother has to go to an office with almost no staff to apply for social security, it is because of Republicans that you may not be able to get into a National Park this summer, it is because of Republicans that your uncle can no longer get care at the VA hospital, it is because of Republicans that there won’t be enough firefighters to put out this summer’s fires, it is because of Republicans that our friends in other countries suddenly hate us and our enemies suddenly love us, it is because of Republicans that our top national security people are more concerned with preventing Americans from discovering what they are doing than with preventing foreign governments from discovering what they are about to do, etc, etc, etc. And this is no exaggeration: Republicans could stop all of this, if they had the balls to do so. It is up to the public to help them grow a pair. Give up on the orange clown, focus on your Republican elected officials, MAKE them stop him.
