Word of the Day: Dystrumpian

I coined the term “dystrumpian” last Thursday while driving from the gym to the coffee shop. Then I googled it as soon as I got home because I knew some other smart alecks had probably coined it too. And I was right!

As you’ve guessed, it’s like “dystopian” only way more grim, apocalyptic and trumpy.

Definitions

Dystopian — of, relating to, or being an imagined world or society in which people lead dehumanized, fearful lives (Merriam-Webster)

Dystrumpian — of, relating to, or being an very real world or society in which a deranged, malignorant cult leader causes people to lead dehumanized, fearful lives (Devlin-Daniel-Webster)

Usage

Please use the word “dystrumpian” in a declarative sentence.

The novel is set in present-day America, a dystrumpian brave new world whose sense of truth, justice and sanity has been reduced to metaphorical rubble.

The dystrumpian carnage unfolding before our eyes is accelerating humankind’s inexorable march toward self-inflicted extinction.

The author of this post is suffering existential angst caused by the real-time dystrumpian demolition of the country he once knew.

Please use the word “dystrumpian” in an interrogative sentence.

Dear lord, when will this dystrumpian nightmare end?

Will no one save us from this dystrumpian clusterfuck?

What will America’s president-turned-imperial grand dragon do next to drag the world deeper into his heinous dystrumpian hellhole?

Please use “dystrumpian” in the form of a protest sign.

You heard me: STOP THIS DYSTRUMPIAN AMERIPOCALYPSE !!!

And yes, I also tried to coin the term “Ameripocalypse” by slamming the words “America” and “apocalypse” together with the force of 1,000 exploding SpaceX Cybertrucks.

Please use the word “Ameripocalypse” in a sentence.

I am not finding any references to the ongoing Ameripocalypse online, probably because it is too much of a “mouthful” and is visually challenging to digest.

Please share a video of a “Stop this Dystrumpian Ameripocalypse !!!” sign at the April 5, 2025, anti-Trump protest in Portsmouth NH.
