Welcome back to the Monday Good News Roundup, the time of the week when your intrepid GNR newsroom (Myself, Killer300, Bhu, and the GNR Discord) bring you all the good news to start your week off right.
Wow, so. What a week huh? Doing the Monday GNR usually means that I am recapping a lot of the stuff that happened over the previous week, and man this was a week of ups and downs.
And for a recap:
*We won big in Wisconsin on Tuesday (and came within spitting distance in Florida)
*Corey Booker shattered records and restored faith in the Dems by going on an over 24 hour fillibuster
*The largest protest against Trumpism happened country wide over the weekend
*And Trump decided to torpedo his own future prospects by turning the Trump slump into the Trump flaming crater.
I really hope this last one finally destroys the myth that the GOP are better for the economy, because Trump just strangled the Economy with his tiny baby hands. I hope everyone who didn’t vote for Harris because they were mad over egg prices feel especially stupid (They are write at home for the ones who didn’t vote for her because they thought she would be too chummy with Israel, buyers remorse is at a premium this election cycle).
But I’m not here to talk about what Trump is doing (Mostly), we’re here to talk about the big wins, about hope and joy, the hope we will one day wake up to a world where Trump is just a bad memory, the joy we will have making that world come to pass with our resistance.
Now lets get on with the good news, starting with some music: Party by the Human League
District Attorney Patrick Warren announced today that all charges have been dismissed against a 24-year-old Tifton woman, Selena Chandler-Scott, who experienced a miscarriage and was later arrested after placing the fetal remains in a dumpster. The decision follows a comprehensive review of the Tifton Police Department’s investigative file, Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s report, relevant Georgia statutes and case law, and input from both legal and medical experts. “After thorough examination of the facts and the law, my office has determined that continuing prosecution is not legally sustainable and not in the interest of justice,” said Warren. “This case is heartbreaking and emotionally difficult for everyone involved, but our decision must be grounded in law—not emotion or speculation.”
Thankfully more compassionate heads prevailed in this particular instance, and an innocent woman who had a horrible experience wont suffer more because of the hateful and stupid laws some assholes have passed.
PARIS, April 4 (Reuters) - Berlin has been paying for Ukraine's access to a satellite-internet network operated by France's Eutelsat (ETL.PA) , opens new tab , as Europe seeks alternatives to Elon Musk’s Starlink. Eutelsat’s chief executive Eva Berneke told Reuters the company has provided its high-speed satellite internet service to Ukraine for about a year via a German distributor.
Just throw Starlink direct in the trash. We don’t need it. (I wouldn’t trust anything made by Musk at this point anyway).
Underscoring the massive scale of America's medical debt problem, a nonprofit has struck a deal to pay off old medical bills for an estimated 20 million people. New York-based Undue Medical Debt, which buys patient debt, is paying off $30 billion worth of unpaid bills in a single transaction with Pendrick Capital Partners, a Virginia-based debt trading company. The average patient debt being retired is $1,100, according to Undue Medical Debt, with some reaching the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It may not be enough, but its a damn fine start.
Favorable views of President Donald Trump have dropped by 15 percentage points in Texas, a solidly Republican state Democrats have long hoped to flip, according to a new poll released Thursday.
Yeah it turns out totally tanking the economy will sort of piss people off, who knew?
Two days before Tuesday’s local elections, the Illinois Republican Party sent out an email to supporters declaring it to be “a do or die moment for us.” The email was just another in a series of fundraising solicitations. But it may have more accurately captured the importance of the election, which featured wide-ranging Democratic victories in the suburbs critical for rebuilding a state GOP already on the verge of irrelevance in Illinois politics and reflected voter angst over the early tumultuous months of Republican President Donald Trump’s second presidency. “There was a broad rejection of what Donald Trump and the Republican Party stands for, and Illinois Democrats had perhaps one of the best nights we’ve ever had,” Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker said on an unrelated press call Wednesday from Mexico, where he is leading a state trade mission. Statewide, the Illinois Democratic Party said it backed 280 candidates in Tuesday’s election and 222, or 79% of them, were victorious.
Wisconsin was not the only place we won big last Tuesday. Lets keep up the momentum and flip congress next year.
I’m between Riley and Ronan time this Sunday morning, so I thought it might be good to check in with everyone. First of all, wow! What a showing yesterday in the nationwide #HandsOff demonstrations against Trump, Musk and the MAGA GOP. Mass mobilization is so important at this juncture, not only to show our electoral strength, but also to demonstrate that we can organize and turn out hundreds of thousands nationwide. Think about what this means. If you’re Donald Trump (along with Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller), and you’re considering defying the courts, “disappearing” political opponents, or even invoking the Insurrection Act and declaring martial law, you now know that there is an active, fired-up, massive resistance ready to meet your actions. And you will think twice. That electoral mandate you claimed has been exposed as a lie. You can choose to kick the hornet’s nest and provoke massive demonstrations, or back off and keep playing golf every weekend.
This weekend we made our presence known. We aren’t going to lay down and put up with Trumps bullshit, we’re here, and we’re ready to fight.
Just a collection of photos from the event.
President Donald Trump is reportedly telling his closest advisers that co-President Elon Musk will soon exit the administration, Politico reported on Wednesday—an apparent effort to distance himself from the unpopular megabillionaire whose destruction of the federal government hangs like an albatross around Republicans' necks in upcoming elections. The report comes after Musk spent $25 million on a race for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, only to end up tanking Republicans' chances. Democrats, meanwhile, ran a campaign tying the conservative nominee to Musk, whose efforts to slash the federal government through his so-called Department of Government Efficiency have caused chaos and suffering and are very unpopular. The anti-Musk message led Democrats to an sizable victory, ensuring that liberals will maintain a majority for at least the next two years.
I mean we all knew this was coming. Elon will soon become the cautionary tale for the next asshole who tries to cozy up with Trump (who will ignore said cautionary tale and also get screwed over, its a beautiful and intensely stupid dance).
Over the past three months, I mentioned in several of my articles here on Wolves and Sheep some of the reasons why Democrats are likely to retake the House of Representatives in 2026. Partially, I did this to keep people's spirits up—something which I believe is important, as long as it is done in an honest, clear-eyed way. Partially, I have done this because I am genuinely excited about Democratic electoral prospects in 2026 and 2028. Big blue waves in those two elections would present us with an opportunity to pass significant legislation in 2029, such as expanding the child tax credit, the pandemic-era expansion of which temporarily cut child poverty in half. What I intend to do in this article is to gather into a single place all of the major reasons why Democrats are likely to retake the House of Representatives in 2026. That way, it can serve as a reference point in the coming months that can help keep spirits up during difficult days, and build a sense of excitement for the upcoming 2026 midterms.
Eyes on the prize for this one folks: If we do this, we stop Trump once and for all.
And on that note, lets have another musical break: Sugababes she’s a mess
Around a fifth of the 10,000 jobs cut from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) were done in error and will need to be corrected, the US health secretary, Robert F Kennedy Jr, has admitted. Mass layoffs from the health department began this week amid a push by Donald Trump’s administration to shrink the size of the federal government workforce. Union representatives were told around 10,000 people were to lose their jobs ahead of further reductions that could see the department’s 82,000-strong workforce slashed by nearly a quarter.
Yeah I ‘d say the number is bigger than that, more like all of them were a mistake.
Researchers at the University of British Columbia have developed a tool to help people determine if their drinks have been spiked. Spikeless, which looks like an ordinary stir stick, is capable of detecting common drink spiking drugs like GHB and ketamine within 30 seconds, potentially preventing assaults. GHB, or gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, and ketamine are tasteless and odourless, so detecting them is nearly impossible.
Great news. Science can be really cool sometimes.
The Texas-trained attorney is considered the “grandmother” of the nation’s fight for transgender legal and political rights and is the first openly transgender person to serve as a judge in the United States. She retired two years ago and, these days, prefers to spend her time at the Houston Grand Opera rather than at the Texas Legislature. But with the movement she helped create under attack, Frye is often asked whether she plans to return to the cause. “My simple answer is, ‘I did that for over thirty years. I led most of that. I’ve done my time. It’s your turn,’ ” she says, adding that in the spirit of International Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, she hopes LGBTQ people across Texas will live their truth for the world to see. “You just got to come out,” she says. “Don’t be ashamed of who you are.”
Words of wisdom from someone whose been at this way longer than most of us.
Researchers at the National Cancer Research Centre in Spain (CNIO) have discovered a mechanism that is triggered just minutes after acute liver damage occurs—and it could lead to treatments for those with severe liver problems. The avenues for future treatments of liver damage include a diet enriched with the amino acid glutamate. “Glutamate supplementation can promote liver regeneration and benefit patients in recovery following hepatectomy or awaiting a transplant,” wrote the authors in a paper published in ‘Nature’.
Again, science is pretty cool sometimes.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is warning that Trump’s tariffs could cause a Republican wipeout that could cost them the House and Senate for the next 60 years.
Everyone always says “Its the Economy stupid.” Well, Trump just broke the economy, because he is stupid. And apparently he was t he only one who thought this was a bright idea because even his die hard fans thinks he fucked up.
emocratic senators on Tuesday announced a "war room" to fight changes at the Social Security Administration (SSA). The initiative, spearheaded by Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Ron Wyden of Oregon, is a direct response to sweeping changes imposed by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an administrative body created by President Donald Trump and overseen by Elon Musk. The "war room" will serve as a central effort to lobby against efforts to change Social Security, visit field offices, hold town halls, share Social Security beneficiaries' stories and relay information on social media.
The Dems are still fighting for us, love em or hate em, unpopular opinion after the incident I know but I’m still backing their play (cause we don’t exactly have a lot of other options here).
Donald Trump's power seems pretty vast right now. He is making some elite universities and law firms bend to his will. He is forcing countries with whom we have been long-time allies into humiliating negotiations, and often concessions, over his tariffs. He has managed to get several ludicrous nominations for his cabinet confirmed, and he made the House Freedom Caucus fall in line on the House Republican budget resolution. He is unilaterally freezing funds appropriated by Congress, and wriggling his way around court rulings using any technicality he can. However, Donald Trump's power is not infinite. He has already run up against multiple barriers in his quest for absolute power. In fact, his power has actually begun to decline, and is likely to continue further declining. Overall, I believe we have already passed “peak Trump,” and are now on a path toward better days. Here is a look at the three most important ways that Donald Trump's power is slowly eroding, and will likely to continue eroding over the next three years, nine months and seventeen days (for those you who are counting).
Trump is on his way out in terms of his relevance, we just have to dig in and hold on tight.
Tuesday’s election results in Wisconsin and Florida were nothing short of disastrous for the Republican Party. On Sunday, I wrote, “[President Donald] Trump keeps his troops in line because they think his backing will give them the best chance to win reelection in 2026. So what happens if being closely tied to Trump makes it less likely they survive?” We’re about to find out what happens. In Wisconsin, Democrats won a state Supreme Court race by 10 percentage points, in a state that Trump won by about 1 point in 2024, meaning the conservative court nominee ran 11 points behind Trump, despite Elon Musk’s big spending in the race.
I think its more likely than you think.
Anyway, that’s enough full stories for this week. TIME FOR POKEMON!
Hard to believe we’re already 15 weeks in huh. Its been a hell of a first quarter hasn’t it?
Anyway, time for a lightning round.
