Republicans Poised to Get What They Dreamed of Ever Since Reagan Took Office - No More Government [1]

Trump has finally given Republicans what they have dreamed of ever since Ronald Reagan was elected. They cast the federal government as the enemy, and, they wanted to destroy it. This made for great campaign slogans. Now we get to see what actually happens when those dreams come true. The result is likely a nightmare.
Old school Republicans who had participated in bipartisanship blocked the way from actually dismantling the whole government. In fact, they helped give us the Clinton reforms, executed in an analytical fashion over two years. That balanced the federal budget and made for genuine economic improvements for all. Now that conservative impediment to destruction has given way to acceptance of absolute rule with a one percent majority and no compromise. The final fall of the Republican Old Guard is combined with the ascendance of a president who champions autocracy.
This sets the stage for the right wing fantasy of an America, free from all constraints on business and un-shamed by services for the common good, to come true. Institutions like Social Security and Disability Insurance, National Parks, the Forest Service, and the National Institute for Health are being ground to dust. And, for good measure, smaller functions like the Securities and Exchange Commission and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation are being thrown into the incinerator to boot. The Heritage Foundation with Project 2025 has put the icing on the cake for Musk, the Kochs, the Mercers, and their compatriots of unfettered big business.
However, things may not turn out exactly as they imagined, as the law of unintended consequences comes into play. The sudden demise of of federal government participation in the economy will likely cause major disruptions in business that Project 2025 did not anticipate. And the lack of influence by regulators like the SEC and FDIC could help make instability in the economy lead to a collapse far worse than a mere recession.
Implementation of Project 2025 required recruiting a president who was unfettered by norms of governmental constraint, but that entailed accepting some of Trump’s associated eccentricities, such as his penchant for terrorizing the global economic community with random applications of trade crushing tariffs. Combine those eccentricities, such as his love for conspiracy theories, all things Putin, with the economic impacts of Project 2025, and the nightmare is becoming a reality. Hopefully even Republicans will learn that you need to be careful what you ask for, you just might get it, good and hard.
