My protest experience: Vancouver, Washington [1]

People in Vancouver, Washington, gathered in Esther Short Park yesterday and it was fantastic. My legs are sore, and I wound up a little woozy from standing in the sun for hours, but it was worth it. Vancouver tends blue, while Clark County is red, but everyone at that rally was American. Estimates are that about 3,000 people took part.

The biggest cheer came when one of our city council members told us that she was speaking for the entire city government when she said the Vancouver Police Department will NOT cooperate with ICE. Neither will they ask anyone about their background or immigration status.

Unfortunately, I live about a quarter mile outside the city limits so I’m under the sheriff’s jurisdiction. I’m not sure which way they’ll go. But I will not shut up.

The rally was non-violent, no shots were fired, and no one was arrested, though one unruly person was removed. And contrary to right-wing attempts to spin this, no one was given so much as a penny to attend.

The signs were great! My favorites include

"When Pete uses the "F" word, you know it's bad."

"I never thought I'd have to march for FACTS."

"It's so bad even this white, straight guy is protesting."

If I can ever figure out why my phone won’t send photos to my computer, I’ll share my signs with you.

I note that the Russian Asset did not invoke martial law yesterday, which would have been the perfect time to do it—he could claim he was going to stop the “traitors” before they could get truly organized.

I fully expect the whining loser to manufacture a crisis and put the troops in the streets sometime this summer, as I also expect protests to ramp up. However, doing it later, not now, will expose it for what it is. A tactic, a stunt.

I’m thinking of taking my sign and standing on the street corner for five minutes a day until this nightmare is over. I’m nervous about doing that, but I think it’s worth the risk. I’ll work up my courage and see how it goes.

It was good fun to make good trouble. Please, if you weren’t in the streets yesterday, get out there next time and let’s make sure the Resistance keeps growing until we get rid of these awful Nazis.

Barnaby and I thank you. See you on the front lines!
