MISSED NEWS: Department Of Education Stops COVID-Era Funding. $3 Billion Lost To All States NOW. [1]

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon has stopped payments remaining in COVID-Era funds to American schools. Originally, some states were given longer periods to spend the money because of the types of projects the local schools were obligated to (e.g., building new facilities). In Kentucky, the deadline for spending this allocated money was not until March of 2026. But like DOGE, McMahon has stopped it all NOW. The total amount is $3 billion across all states, but some states are getting hit harder than others with this latest, “FUCK YOU!” from the budgetary terrorists who run the federal government.

Here are some of the headlines I have found about this issue from various states:

Maryland faces $418 million ‘catastrophic’ loss in pandemic-era relief funds U.S. Department of Education sends 5 p.m. Friday letter saying payouts will stop immediately, unless states prove otherwise

The above is about the state of New Jersey. NJ gets to lose $85 million for infrastructure development.

Yes, Mississippi! You all are royally getting fucked.

Yes, the great swing state of Michigan gets to lose $42 million thanks to their vote for Trump.

This link says that the total loss will be $2 billion, but other news articles say it’s $3 billion. However, it has a lovely chart of the top ten worst hit states:

The most impacted states The 10 most impacted states are as follows, based on federal records of unspent ESSER money: Pennsylvania: $254 million Texas: $242 million Maryland: $240 million New York: $178 million Florida: $150 million Ohio: $137 million Tennessee: $136 million Mississippi: $132 million Massachusetts: $124 million New Jersey: $110 million

Of course, blue states are taking a hit, but look at all the RED STATES that are getting the middle finger from Trump! There’s Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Tennessee! And they decided to shit on another wonderful swing state — Pennsylvania, which is the winner in most impacted!

Way to go PA!

As for my beloved home state of Kentucky and all those teachers in rural counties that voted for Trump, it looks like the loss of this money is spread out over several districts.

Owsley County School District Superintendent James Cornett II said without federal COVID-19 emergency relief funds, needed renovations on school buildings would’ve been impossible. The small eastern Kentucky district was in the final leg of a project to renovate bathrooms for about 700 students. They had just $340,000 left to pay out, scheduled for Monday, March 31… “Because $340,000 to a district our size, it'll devastate us,” Cornett said.

Yes, Owsley County went for Trump. The rednecks there should have thought about this when they voted for Trump, but they are too busy hating on the rest of us to notice little things like this.

Some districts are nearly done expending their funds, while others would be losing out on a significant amount, like southeastern Laurel County, which still had $10 million remaining in outstanding COVID-era relief funds, or western Christian County that had less than an $8 million balance… In northeastern Carter County School District, Superintendent Paul Green said the sudden deadline would make his district lose out on $4.16 million in federal funding. Those funds were dedicated to building a new high school building that would consolidate the district's two high schools and its career and technical center into one building. Green said they’ve already spent $9 million of the funds on site development.

Once again, no rhyme or reason for the cuts. Many of these school districts have already spent some money on these projects only to see the rest of the money canceled. But all those counties voted for Trump (for instance, Laurel County was 84% for Trump).
